2007/2008 South Laurel

The young kids will have to step up. St. John, Gilbert, Jones and Borkman form a nice nucleous. The Watkins kid will contribute. The Sizemore kid was MVP in the all star game at the 5 Star camp in Pittsburgh this summer. He was also voted the biggest sleeper at the Blue Chip camp in Georgetown and won several of the shooting contests at that camp. He is a 6'2" kid with skills who can run all day. He recently won the Chicken Festival 5k. This kid would start at probably almost every team in the 13th. The Cards lost some kids but they will still be a hard win for anybody.

I am from NKY so dont have a lot of knowledge about SL but did see the Holmes/SL game last year down at State and I was very impressed with the Big St. John kid. He was huge then, how big is he now?

He grew from 6'6 to 6'8 from the beginning to the end of last HS season. My guess is he'll crack 6'10 by the end of the 07/08 season; at least that's what the SL staff told me they expect.

What grade will St. John be in 10th? He will become a big time player if he puts in the effort to do so.

Impressive. With that size he should be a force in the 13th.

He will be a sophomore.

He will be a sophomore.

If he works hard and polishes the skills he already has then he will be a force his Jr/Sr years. 6'10 and with his experience playing in the State Tournament will make him an unstoppable player but he has to work hard and develop what he already has.

6'6", 6'8", 6'10". Wow. This hype reminds me a little of when the big Mills kid was playing at Corbin. According to the Corbin people he was growing about an inch every two weeks. He went from 6'6" to 6'10" over the summer. However, during the season when he was playing against a legit 6'10" center he appeared to be several inches shorter.

Everyone in the 13th is wanting South Laurel to not be competitive this season. It's not gonna happen. They won't be as dominate as they have been the past few seasons with the loss of Proffitt, Hammons, Smith, and company, ... but Steve Wright's teams are ALWAYS competitive. The Cardinals will be fine.

They will be competitive in the 13th, not the favorite but competitive. However, they will not be competitive on the state level as they have been. When you graduate the players they have during the last 3 years some drop off can be expected. How big a drop off is the question.

Does anyone know where I can find Souths sch. for the 07-08 season?

South is always in the hunt for the Region Title.

Look on the KHSAA website all teams should be on there by now.

Funny...i saw him last week and was 6' 61/2" with shoes. Evidentally Steve Wright had him stretch over the summer to intimidate and now he is back to normal. Matthew lives close to Corbin and we wish him nothing but the best...except when he plays against Corbin.

He lives closer to Corbin than he does to London...........and was real close to switching when he had to go to SLMS after leaving Hunter Hills Elem. I have to root for him even if he does go to South Laurel.:D

Maybe Steve just borrowed the same tape measure that was used to measure Josh Crawford...............After reports of Josh being as much as 6'6":thumb:
