If that is the case I don't think UK would have had a shot at them anyway and like I said I can't see a recruit seeing the game and suddenly calling up Brooks and asking to visit. Where did GT ever say that? So you don't think it's a disadvantage in the recruiting process if they players don't even get to see the games? C'mon now...
September 17, 200718 yr It's not about who isn't already interested. For example every UC recruit I talked to said they watched the Oregon State game on ESPN. At this stage the 08 class is watching who has been in contact. The simple fact is UK beat #9 in the land on ESPN Classic. Do you really think everyone on the list has it? It was a HUGE win for UK, but there could have been a much bigger impact. Simple as that. No more no less. Not seeing it is sticking your head in the sand... Keep believing that...the Kentucky coaches will laugh at you, and they already have All-America and All-SEC talent assembled without the huge win...again, no offense, but I'm going with what I already knew and they confirmed for me on this one...

He mentions the UC recruits watching the Oregon State game and that all the 08 recruits are watching the teams that contacted them. One can then make the assumption that if not playing on opening weekend hurt UK's cause (and it would have to be with the already interested recruits since it was made clear by GT that it wasn't with recruits that previously had no interest in UK) then the only conceivable outcome is that it would cost UK in recruiting. For that to happen said recruits would have to lose interest because the didn't have ESPN Classic and didn't get to watch the game. If such a recruit decided that which ESPN station the game was on was more important than the outcome of the game then I ask you--what kind of a chance did UK have with them anyway? Would it have been a bigger story on opening weekend? Definately. Is the outcome more important than the date it was played and which ESPN channel it was on? Almost certainly.
September 17, 200718 yr By kicking for the two XP in the 1st two 2nd half touchdowns the Cats had a chance to kick for the win instead of kicking for a tie late in the game if they had gone for two and missed. Let me break it down. The Cats scored the 1st TD of the 2nd half. If they had gone for two and missed their lead would have been 25-21 instead of 26-21. The Cards scored again, and the score would have been 28-25. The Cats score and the score is 32-28. The Cards scored and they would have kicked instead of going for two. The score would have been 35-32. The Cats would have had to kick a FG just to send it into OT, instead of kicking for the win. What advantage would have going for two early in the 2nd half have given the Cats? So, let's say that it had gone by your scenario, and getting late in the game, with the Cards having just scored and leading 35-34, given that UK had converted that phantom 2-pt. conversion, then the Cats chew up some clock and score another TD and, since there's under 3 minutes left in the game, UK attempts and, again, converts another 2-pt conversion, making the score then 42-35. Then, with some good passing and clock management, and a little better luck, the Cards do score that late TD! Do they then kick the extra pt. to tie the game, since they're the visiting team, satisfied with sending it into OT. Or, do they go for the win by attempting a 2-pt. conversion since they're on the road? :eek: Of course, this scenario would have existed only had the Cats gone for, and converted, that phantom 2-pt conversion. Otherwise, the Cards win the game with the 6 pts. from the TD, not even needing to kick that final PAT since there was no time left on the clock. Also, if the Cards do put up that TD at the end of the game, they only needed to kick the PAT, and win the game. So, were those 2 pts. not important? Pap and I both still think they were! :thumb:

You know the ones that change every few seconds from MLB to NCAA to Chase for the Cup and have pictures with thumnail descriptions. It has since been moved to the front page of the college football section under the Spotlight tab that changes between Trojan/Gators, Forde, Howard's Rock etc. It was on the front page all afternoon however. It got no more love than any article Forde writes. ONE ESPN guy (and the only guy there that has covered either team before he made it big) had a story. Very impressive. Keep repeating it and it must be true. And while doing so realize that the UL D getting exposed in the first two games helped getting there. I'm very simply saying the win should have been bigger. The UK brass panicked after the game last year, and as it played out it was a move that didn't help the program as much as advertised. Enjoy the win. Live it. Love it. But please don't give a poor management decision credit for it...

This wasn't the national level, monumental win most UK fans are claiming it to be. Reminds me a bit of the UL win over Miami. Minus the ESPN Varsity game coverage of course... :walk:

First, we never said it was a huge mistake, second, we never said it hurt recruiting either. Simply that it would have done nothing but help UK's program and it's recruiting. We've also never disputed the fact that the outcome was the most important part of this whole scenario. You keep arguing points that we aren't even disputing.

Auburn was #4 when Arkansas went to their house and won last year, yet people on here say doing that and winning the SEC West was only because they didn't get UF in the SEC schedule machine. I also heard LSU was all that and a bag of chips with the #1 overall QB and a nasty D yet they managed to put up THREE points visiting the same Auburn squad. For the first time in 30 years UK didn't blow it. Enjoy. Much like 30 years ago it won't last long... :bunny:

UK went from receiving no votes in the AP Poll to 21st, 9 votes in the USA Today Poll to 23rd, and from receiving NO votes in the ESPN Fan Poll to 17th. You know you would think that most of those fans must have heard of the upset to enter the poll that high. I guess if it would have been played on Labor Day Weekend UK would have entered into the Top 10. Their presence in the Fan Poll (although they are ranked too high) should speak volumes about the coverage that the game's outcome received nationally.
