Louisville would have no defense to look past Kentucky

Featured Replies

Anyone who saw Middle Tennessee tear through Louisville's defense Thursday has to wonder if Kentucky running back Maurice Grinter isn't right.

"They got exposed," Grinter told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Those are fightin' words, especially for a guy who gained minus-1 yard against Kent State two days later and saw his team's defense get exposed, too, as it surrendered 324 rushing yards.

But the point is well-taken (if you're not from Louisville, anyway) and perhaps can be extended to this: It was hard to imagine No. 9 Louisville playing for a national championship -- or even a Big East championship -- as you watched Middle Tennessee traverse Papa John's Cardinal Stadium like an Olympic track team.

Everyone on ESPNU's college football team just picked Kentucky to win the game.

^ Sweet....all is going in favor of the 'Ville.

Oh really, and how is that? Did they recruit a new defense this week?

^ Actually.....I am 100% confident that the defense will be night and day. We have discussed this to death...but I think that Cassity will have put the right situations into play to where these athletes are spending less time thinking and more time reacting, the only thing that concerns me defensively is the threat of mis-direction. Again, I am not naive as I was in the Pizza Box for the last two games...but there are certain positives that can be taken out of those games, and the negatives are actually easily fixed. The variance between Louisville's problems and UK's, is that UK has injuries that are compounding their issues. Four more days.

I think, or at least hope, that this is UK's year. I will say this much - I think a win against U of L and we'll have a successul season and a bowl game appearance. A loss will kill some of their momentum and make the road a little tougher.

^ I can buy the latter part of your post, while hoping against the former.

I don't like UK being picked in this game. This is a plus for the Cards. They now have a point to prove coming into this game. Woodson stated that this will be their statement game, and I hope he is right. But the DT's getting injured on a soft run defense already, makes me more than a little bit nervous.

On a positive note, Jason Leger was the SEC O Linemen of the week! Great job for the big boy from The Rock!

I saw that earlier..................Arrrrrrrrrrrrggghh. I wanted the complete opposite on the predictions.

GO CATS!!!

Yes. Go Cats. We'd love to see the big blue take down the Cards. I'm both a Kentucky fan and Louisville fan, and I'm more in favor of Kentucky. But let's keep it real, Kentucky stands a slight bit chance in beating Brian Brohm and company. 42-27

You can teach that in a week?

By "dumbing down" the coverage schemes.

Has to make you feel good about your D when you use that term.

That term is used all over the country with coaches. When a team is as inexperienced in the secondary as UofL is right now, it can be very easy to overload them with information, thus causing them to think too much on the field which delays their reactions to the current play. If you make things simpler and then work your way up from there it can be a much smoother transition for the players.

Making things simpler for UK's passing attack might be the lesser of two evils, but it still doesn't bode well for the D....
