For the record, Im not saying soccer isnt a very popular sport, I just think it's going to have a hard time here in America, as does my favorite sport, hockey. We have football, baseball, and basketball; and families that have played those sports for generations... which leads to their children bring raised to play these three sports, it's going to be a long time before that changes, IMO

I can't wait to tell my nephew that he single-handedly reignited the BGP soccer war!

I am just having some fun with this, if someone likes soccer then by all means go for it. I just personally can't stand it.

Then why is it the most popular sport? People like to watch what they enjoy doing.... lots of people in other countries play soccer, therefore they enjoy watching it.

Or I guess one: you don't like soccer, or you more probably have a token hatred for soccer, have probably never watched a game in your life and feel some sort of 'manly' pressure to denigrate it. Which, I can assure, isn't going to substantiate anything.

And for the record, I've played football since I was in the second grade. I'm not an ex-soccer player with an ax grind. It is a brilliant game and wildly exciting.

I have watched a lot of games. went to nearly every soccer game my high school team played last year, but that was just simply because i went to support my friends, definitely not because I like it. Im just saying that it is very cheap to be able to play (all a school needs for a soccer team is 2 goals, uniforms, and a ball, where a school needs to buy a large quantity of pads for a football team) and it doesnt take much skill to just play around. (i.e. its easier to kick a ball with some sort of control than it is to hit a baseball with a bat.) dont get me wrong, it takes a TON of talent to excel, but just to play, not so much. And even though you say i dont make a good point, you just attack my dislike of soccer instead of making counterpoints.

You can like or dislike whatever you want, but you are really making some stretches here.

 

You don't like soccer. I don't care. You think soccer is boring. You're in the minority. You said it's only popular because it's easier than baseball and cheap to play.

 

You're assuming it is easier to dribble and shoot a soccer ball than it is to hit or throw a baseball. You could never possibly prove that. In fact, cricket is more popular than baseball, how did that happen? You're assuming soccer is only popular because it is cheap. Sandlot baseball is cheap, backyard football is cheap, basketball is cheap. If you are going to pretend your dislike of soccer is steeped in facts, you should provide them.

You do any of three things in soccer. You run, kick the ball, or let it bounce off your face for a goal.

Why must you continue to use money as your main argument? You act like people play soccer just because of inexpensiveness (not sure if that is a word, but you know what I mean), not because of the love of the game. And also, you can't be serious about the kicking a soccer ball/ hitting a baseball comparison. Try to get a baseball superstar with no previous soccer experience to kick a ball with "some sort of control" and it would be laughable. Give a soccer player or even a kid older than 6 a baseball bat and you'll see for yourself which one is easier.

Basketball- Dribble, Pass, Shoot

Baseball- Hit, Pitch, Throw

A soccer goalie was walking along the street one day when he heard screams from a nearby building. He looked up to see smoke billowing from a fourth-floor window and a woman leaning out holding a baby.

"Help ! Help!" screamed the woman, "I need someone to catch my baby!"

 

A crowd of onlookers had gathered, but none was confident about catching a baby dropped from such a great height. then the goalkeeper, stepped forward. "I'm a professional goalkeeper," he called to the woman. "I'm renowned for my safe hands. Drop the baby and I will catch it. For me, it will be just like catching a ball."

 

The woman agreed: "Ok, then. When I drop my baby, please, please treat it as if you were catching a ball."

 

On a count of three, the woman dropped the baby. Everyone held their breath as the goalie lined himself up to catch it. There was a huge sigh of relief, followed by wild cheering as the goalie caught the baby safely in his arms.

 

Then he bounced it twice on the ground and kicked it 50 yards down the street.
