Same here. First it was our "Combat" camo machine guns, later it was home made swords with metal garbage can shields. We wanted up close and physical hand to hand combat as we grew older. We were politically incorrect Neanderthals.

We used to save up our nickels and dimes as a kid and beg our mom to take us down to the EF-KO Army Store on Madison in Covington. We'd buy all kinds of old military issue clothes and gear there for our neighborhood Army battles. It was awesome.

We'd all be running around in a hodge-podge of WWII, Korea, Cold War, and Vietnam era odds and ends. My prized possession was a pair of WWII canvas leggins that I got from a neighbor who wore them on his shins when he landed on Omaha Beach. I still have them.

It's what I'm here for.

A can of Simoniz.

True story.

Back in the day (probably late '60s) my dad and a friend of his "developed" a board game that they called "Uncouth". The object was to travel through different venues and collect more "uncouth points" than the other players. Goosing the bride (wedding venue) was worth 10 points; while complimenting the hostess on how sanitary her napkins looked (dinner party venue) was worth a couple.

Their project was summarily rejected by Parker Brothers.

Some of my most prized possessions as a kid:

The VertiBird makes sense. I can't picture you playing with, for instance, the VertiColonel.

^ That's great.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

My dad gets his Lionel Train set out pretty much every Christmas. It's not the set that goes around the tree, but he still likes to have it out to play around with for a while. It's pretty fantastic watching my 64 year old dad playing toy trains with all my little nephews.

I know Pa said I shouldn't be jealous, but you all gettin' all this stuff just ain't fair!

My bike. I tore up the mean streets of Hodgenville. My brother and I were always on our bikes.

My bike, roller skates, and marbles.

And comic book trading. We lived in the base apartments and kids would go door to door with thier boxes of comic books to trade.

For board games it would have to be SORRY, Operation, Monoploy.
