What is the point in assignments if you get to pick which one you want to be in? What would be a valid reason? Are there any other schools "playing up"?

 

In spite of what some of the above posters want to believe Somerset did not get to choose their district. There were 11 requests made by schools to play up in class and 6 of them were approved. Geography and how many schools would be in the district that they were leaving were the determining factors. All of this is on the KHSAA website under football and realignment information. There is also a list of each schools concerns before the realignment was finalized. Under Somerset it stated that Somerset was in favor of a 5 class system with an equal number of teams in each class and no schools being allowed to play up. When a 6 class system was announced Somerset asked to play up due to travel distances. They were given no more or no less consideration than the other 10 teams.

I don't really see it being that big of a deal. They are playing in a higher class so the other teams should have no problem beating them, since they are really just a little 1a school. But that is not going to happen, I think people are scared of what Somerset can do.

Actually, according to KHSAA alignment they should be 2A where I believe they have already been beaten by one of those little 2A teams. After looking at the teams they left and those they went to--I wouldn't try to use that "playing up" line--Everyone, regardless of their size should have to play in whatever class their enrollment dictates. And quite frankly, you have beat that little 1A school line to death. It seems when you win it is because you are so great (tradition, tradition) but when you lose it is because the other school should win because they are soooo much bigger.

I am not in any way linked to Somerset. I am just calling it as I see it inmyopinion. That line may be beat to death but the truth hurts. And sorry for being off one class thats a really big deal.

Let's get back to football. Why does each and every thread with Somerset in it have to always go in another direction. I for the life of me don't get it, why some (not all) SW and PC supporters do nothing but take shots at SHS. I know the kids on both of your teams, I know coaches in both programs and have not and will not take cheap shots at them. Be happy with your own success, if you think we will loose say why. But the horse has been beaten to dust on most of the subjects that keep getting brought up on here.

I have probably over-looked it, but could someone tell me if SHS is @ home?...

So, I will ask it again, Have these two teams ever played each other? I didn't catch if anyone answered it. All apologies to anyone I may have offended with my unfounded earlier comment. I must learn to control myself and not do those things. From this point on if I don't have something nice to say, I wont' say anything.

Not even close.... I've seen Taylor Co. in person and they did not impress me at all...

I am a supporter of all the local schools, so being that I do not agree with that every time SHS gets assigned to a district that may have more than one loss they some how get out of it to play "closer teams". I do not believe that SW and PC people are taking shots but just pronouncing there dis appreciation with this, year in and year out. I also do not believe it's taking shots if Somerset keeps setting themselves up for it. I believe 100% in my heart that Jay Cobb is running the program into the ground. There has been a lot of good coaches, and whole lot of good players through the Somerset program that put there blood sweat and tears into building a great program built upon pride and tradition. I know for me and many others that pride and tradition is in question with Cobb and the helm!

I really Think Coach Cobb is a really good High School Coach and has really done a good job at most places he has coached,and his players have to work as hard as he does or it dont mean nothing,wins will come and people will see that Jay Cobbs can win at SHS..SHS will win over Taylor Co. Go Jumpers....

I think Coach Cobb is a great coach. The people that I have talked to say that the kids love playing for him and he is a proven winner. I disagree that he is hurting the program. 2 consecutive Region championships should tell everyone what he is doing something right. I understand some of the posters comments about his desire to change Districts when it suits him. His last District was abysmal and noone talked about travel and Geography then, but with the new allignment another inferior District was created in 3A and SHS then chose to PETITION the KHSAA due to travel. Coach Cobb either picks these sorry Districts or is the luckiest man in the world, according to our head football coach Cobb waited to see the projected District and then pertitioned to be addes to it. I do not believe that there is anything wrong with doing that, but it would be great if SHS would just come out and sat that travel really had nothing to do with it and that the real reason was for WINS. These scores are way off. I think that Somerset will win but by a close margin 7-10 points. What happened to the offense last week? Only 7 points? Is that right? Did the offense cramp up or something?:madman: :madman: :madman: Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Somerset goes out from start to finish and wins by 3 touchdowns!

Capt. Jack I think they are ignoring us and are still licking their wounds. I don't believe these two teams have met either ever or in a long, long time. There is no history with them but we know that Taylor plays hard and will put out the effort. However, I hope I'm right in saying that Somerset does have alot of talent and they should be bringing it together this week. Go and win all of the local teams...Maroons, Warriors and Jumpers!!!!
