Kickers This Year

Featured Replies

Bathiany, at Highlands, will be at the top of the list all year.

This guy starts on defense too.

Are there other kickers in multiple positions, other than kicker?

Wasn't there a Boscher (sp) who was a good place kicker for X a few years back? Any relation?

Yes, Ben from class of 1997?? He went to a NAIA school. Glad his younger brother is doing well, some people gave him some grief over some missed kicks last year. Looked good vs Ballard. I always thought he was going to be a good one.

Belfry has a good kicker in Glenn Earnest who is a old fashion straight on lineman kicker. He is 1-2 in field goals this year, with the one bein long enough but just wide.

I know he was 3-3 in PAT against Corbin and I think missed one against Lawrence. His first kickoff against Corbin was a touchback.

I'll go so far to say he is the best Straight-On kicker I have seen in 10 years... the kid has legit range to 50 yards which is unheard of from that type of kicker, supposedly he was hitting from 52 yards in warm-ups Friday night. I like to refer to Earnest as the " Throwback Smashmoputh Kicker" HAHA

As for the traditional soccer style kicker, the Merrick kid and McNutt kid alone have proven themselves to be an asset with their performances thusfar and their Summer Camps. Also, throw in the kicker for Raceland, the kicker at Dunbar, and it seems that caoches are finally catching the boat on just how important special teams and field -position can be. It's a sure fire sign that kentucky football as a whole is improving.

Every kickoff Stephens has kicked this year has been a touch back. I heard this from a kid at there school.

Ben Bosscher kicked for Air Force and was heavily recruited by UofL, OSU and UofK. Not NAIA

NCC's kicker is Chris Grosser. He's a convert from that "other" futbol, but showed great promise in the FTJFL. He'll get only better as the season goes on. Only a JR, he's the heir apparent to Drew Bathiany as NKY's best foot!

He left AF to a smaller school. Thought he "played" at a NAIA. Could be wrong, but what school did he go to? Anycase one of the top kickers at X.

His brother I would think should be one of the top kickers in state this year. Should be getting some looks from colleges.

Raceland has a very good kicker as well. He kicked the game winning field goal against Ashland in week 1.

Kicking camps are what is helping the Kickers in the state of KY. Ten years ago not many kicking camps, now kickers are going to camps in the summer.

Don't care how strong of a leg you have, no form, no consistency, no good.

This kickers for KY has been going on for a while. Look at last year, three kickers at D-1A level two on scholly. Tiness (WKU)Tydlacka(UK) Popham(Wake)

I would agree. Our kicker this year could barely get the ball over the cross bar on a regular basis last year. One summer camp and he just hit a 42 yarder this past friday for his first field goal. I believe that a kid from KCD out of Louisville has signed with tulane to kick next year.

Is it just me or does it seem as if there are a large number of excellent kickers/punters in Kentucky this year? Just off the top of my head, there is the Merrick boy from Bell County that kicks them out of the stadium, the Stephens boy from Lafayette who had 3 40+ yarders in Week 1, and the McNutt boy from Mayfield who has a tremendous leg. Wasn't long ago when a 40 yard field goal was considered tremendous, and I used to routinely see kickers who can't make 30-35 yards with consistency. What's in the bluegrass water this year, and who are some of the state's other top legs?

The Merrick boy from Bell County hit a 56 yard FG as time expired to end first half against Rockcastle. This was a big game among rivals and two top five 4-A teams. The momentum of the game swung as Bell entered dressing room up 10-0! This was the fourth longest FG in Ky prep history. Aaron Petry of Raceland's 58 state record; Dustin Wynn's 57 yard long standing record (tied by Shane Popham in '06) and Merrick's 56 yarder. Kick was also from the right hash mark as ball was run out of bounds by Spencer Greer to stop clock with 2 secs. to set up the kick. Merrick excelled in summer camps against other great kickers in state coming out on top in all head-to-head battles. Merrick is 3-3 in his career on last second FG's. You will find a pic of the kick posted by Bell fan on Bell 24-Rockcastle 0 thread.

Bathiany from Highlands last night put all but one of his kickoffs in the rear of the endzone, one actually was about a yard or two past the back of the endzone. I would think he has a future possibly as a kicker.

Against Dixie, Bathiany kicked a 48-yard FG at Dixie, which apparently would have been good from at least 54 yds.

But his best kick went only 10 yards!!!:dancingpa

But could he do it in a game? What about from the hash? :D

Ernest kicked a 50 yarder from the left hash Friday night against Shelby Valley.

There's no question he has a big leg, and he hit it with ease, but that field goal was a little wind aided too. ;)

Actually it only netted 8. It went 11, and rolled back 3. It was perfect though.
