NAACP Supports Vick

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of starting the NAAWP. You know, just in case Tom Brady starts executing his Rhode Island Red Roosters who underperform, and I can come to his defense because he's being discriminated against because he's white!

Surely you realize the reason the NAACP was started in the first place, right?

Yes I do, and find that now it's used as a platform and in very few ways is used to defend and uphold the very thing it was founded for. In this instance, surely you realize race had nothing to do with this.

No doubt that its nowhere near what it was started out as. Your "NAAWP" seemed to make light of the organization. I just wanted to make sure that people realize that it had a valid concern in the day.

And, yes, I realize that race is not a factor in this case.

I agree 100%. IF the NFL lets this thug back in at ANY time with ANY resrictions/ non restrictions for ANY reason then they have made a huge set back on what they have claimed to be doing and what the said they would do. We will see how it plays out.

As for the support of the NAACP, who is really suprised at that? Imo they remind me of the ALCU - they are/were a great organization and were needed and founded on very good intentions and principles. Both have now made acomplete joke of themselves in various areas. Both the NAACP and ACLU to me have lost all credibility before this incident ever came about.

Those are just my opinions and are not meant to belittle the basic principles that both were intended for but rather to belittle a lot of the things that imo they now do and stand for. I know that others may feel differently and that is fine, they are entitled to an opinion as well as I.

To promote equality of rights and to eradicate caste or race prejudice among the citizens of the United States; to advance the interest of colored citizens; to secure for them impartial suffrage; and to increase their opportunities for securing justice in the courts, education for the children, employment according to their ability and complete equality before law.

Here's the NAACP mission statement, where is Vick being wronged in these regards?

1. I would assume he votes

2. He has enough cabbage from his endorsement deals to secure the finest legal representation money can buy.

3. No one is denying him education for his children

4. He's been employed according to his ability, some would argue overemployed according to his ability.

So, what am I missing by the NAACP's input here?

My NAAWP was a joke with the intent to show how silly such a defense for another QB who was white under similar circumstances would be. What's next, will we see Jesse or Al on the courthouse steps? There will be TV cameras you know!;)

I would hate to even mention race in this issue. Like others have said, Vick isn't being wronged in any racist way. He chose to breed, fight, and execute dogs. He is pleading guilty to these charges. If a white football had player done the same thing, we'd all be just as appalled and disgusted.

If the NAACP want to help the black community, then they need to stop excusing the bad behavior of certain individuals and start exhorting those who work hard and excel in life.

I couldn't agree more. :thumb:
