Pearl Jam censored over Bush remarks

Featured Replies

The fact that anyone would be interested in anything said by Pearl Jam or the Dixie Chicks says a lot about the state of this country. Possibly we could get the learned thoughts of Paris Hilton or Sean Penn.

To clarify, I'm not interested at all in what they have to say but when I spend $55+ to listen to their music, that's what I want to listen to. If I want to hear someone bash Bush I'll call Rockmom...;)

Yet, if they espouse the views you hold, you'll be fine with an entertainer speaking out on his/her views. (Not just you specifically, you collectively)

IE-Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwar...., Fred Thompson.

Personally, I disagree. They bashed the 'Rolling Stone' when they were in Cincinnati, which I'm not a fan of, and it still perturbed me...

:D You can pay me in cash. :D

That's not the same. Those guys are conservative Republicans. :p

Or Rush Limbaugh:banana:

While I would tend to agree, comparing the biased, but informed, Limbaugh to mental lightweights may be stretching it a little. You can compare Limbaugh to Rodham but you need to compare Pearl Jam and Dixie Chicks to expired fertilizer.

Your honor...I rest my case! :D

What makes them mental lightweights? The fact that they don't agree with you?

Pearl Jam has always been a "cause" band, doesn't anyone remember the war they waged against Ticketmaster? Anyone who schedules these guys knows what they are buying.

Actually, no. It is just that some matters are as obvious as is the fact that Tuesday follows Monday. Do you really doubt that they are mental lighweights or do you just want to disagree for the sake of disagreeing? Can I prove that they are lightweights? No. Thankfully, I know little about them. I thought Pearl Jam was one of the Hilton children. But, then, circumstantial evidence can be convincing.

Why do we care what celebs say and why do they think their opinion is better than ours.? I think they need to keep o their line of work and keep politics and other matters to the personal side .:thumb:

I really don't think they're mental lightweights. Just as I don't think that Bush is a mental lightweight (despite the evidence. :D)

And, I don't argue for the sake of arguing.

If it was intentional some heads need to roll as that's just plain wrong. They have a right to be heard and if someone let's their own opinion be swayed by an entertainer then we have bigger problems than censhorship going on.

It would seem in a supposed free country, if Pearl Jam has a right to say it, A T & T has an equal right to not have to listen to it or pay for it to broadcast it.

No problem with it.

Also, does anyone here have a problem with the use of the word censorship? Censorship I have always thought of as government action or official action. If I am a private company and I tell you you can't send a political memo around that's not censorship, that's a business decision. When the radio stations elected not to play Dixie Chicks songs, thats not censorship, that's a business decision. Censorship is when a public school prohibits a certain book from being read, or a government agency tells a TV station they can't air a certain program. I think censorship here is painting with too broad a brush, but maybe its just me.

It's not just you. When I tell my employees they can't curse when clients are in the office, I'm not censoring them. I'm running my business as I see fit.

As usual you are exactly right.

If I were in Pearl Jam's shoes though, I would be livid and would be sure to never allow AT&T to profit from my music again. I'd also use the band's popularity and fame to boycott the company.
