Who will surprise?

Mercer Co. Titans, they have Seniors and Juniors that will finally get their chance to "rise to the occasion". Yeah, we lost 22 Seniors, but we gained a championship and motivation to WIN and to be perfect. These guys have something to prove in 5-A and they are ready to meet the challenge. Go Titans!:ylsuper:

They just left a district of GRC, Madison Central, Lincoln Co, South Laurel, Whitley Co. I think their new class and district will be a plus for them.

I don't know. Lincoln, GRC and Central were solid, but so are Johnson Central, Woodford and Ashland. I would then put Bryan Station ahead of South Laurel, North Laurel and Whitley County. That's an outsiders opinion, but at best I would call it an even trade.

I think Mercer could be a state semifinalist this season. If they win their district, they would get Johnson Central at home in the quarterfinals, which is significant. They would have to go to Highlands in the state semifinals, which would probably be the end of the road.

"tha D?" C'mon, its hard to take that serious! Is Dunbar improved enough to win football games in the city? They would have to have taken a giant leap to compete with Creek and Lafayette, much less Henry Clay. And nobody from Fayette County is winning 6A, so leave that in the dust.

Who knows what will happen. It's possible. Sad to say this, but last year things just fell apart on Man O' War. The team that was 4A runner-up had a very tough game at dunbar. Leaps yeah, but not giant ones.

I think that Bryan Station could suprise some ppl this year. They started the year slow but picked it up near the end of last season with a 7-6 loss against Woodford Co, a 6-0 loss to Tates Creek, and a respectable showing against Paul Dunbar. This team is full of athletes with exceptional size. I could see them finishing anywhere between 2-5 in the district this year but likely end up as the #3 seed.

Very much so. They're definately loaded with talent and have done well in the weightroom. If they can put it all together, watchout!

Theoretically with all the talent they have, Dunbar should always be solid. Consistency seems to be their biggest problem. They will have to take a big step this year to compete in the city, just because Henry Clay, Lafayette and Creek all seem to be pretty good. Good luck to you guys, though!

Fair enough. :thumb:

I think North Laurel is in a position to really go far. They have some tough contests (S. Laurel on 8/31 & Whitley on 9/14) early on, but they can go far.

The Murray High Tigers have a great team this year. They are loaded with talent and are really underestimated. Lee Edwards has put together a really good team this year and the Tigers are gonna shock their district.

Campbell County is my sleeper team.....Their "D" is going to be one of the best around....

I've heard campbell looks good.

Good luck to the camels.

North Oldham returns 11 starters on both sides of the ball. A lot of SR's have been playing varsity ball since they were Soph's since it is a newer program. I think they will have a good year.

How did they do today?

Their district should allow them to compete for a trip to the final eight in Class 3A. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustangs make the trip to Paducah Tilghman for a regional championship.

Not really from my neck of the woods, but I'll offer a class-by-class sleeper or two.

1A - Trimble County feels slighted at not getting a preseason ranking. They return a bundle from last year, including one of the state's best running backs in David Bird. I'm still not sold on their schedule but could make some noise regardless. I also will keep an eye on Hazard, Fulton City and Cumberland.

2A - Caldwell County and Heath are two that jump out at me. Caldwell because they have had a full season under their new coach, and Heath because of their running game. Both are in the same district. Green County and Metcalfe County make the jump from 1A and are in the same district with Glasgow and Monroe County, making that a district to keep an eye on. I don't see many blowouts there. Reed Fields has done a great job at Bath County. They are another team I'll be watching.

3A - Edmonson County returns 16 starters and play in a district with no overwhelming favorite. They could be a sleeper in their new district. I think North Oldham and Garrard County could sneak up on some people.

4A - I know Franklin County graduated Kaelin Ammons, but they have a bunch of starters back, a new coach, and a new scheme that could see them advance farther than some think. Western has looked good in the preseason. Look for Hopkins County Central and Marion County to turn some heads as well.

5A - In the battle for the Highlands Trophy, Clay County jumps out at me with their offense. I think Woodford County and Oldham County will surprise some people as well.

6A - Graves County and Meade County are two teams that are known for their first round upsets in the past, yet still fall into the sleeper category each year. These two could move past the first round this year.

I will be keeping up with Woodford County this year....I too believe they will suprise people after I saw them scrimmage last night. With the addition of Lewis in a few weeks....look out.
