Those saying Harang, aside from record, why do you think so?

Not being confrontational, just would like to see the other side of it.

I know he can't control it, b/c he's a starter, but Weathers has clearly been a part or was the only chance the Reds had to win more games than Harang this year.

Harang has been a consistent starter, on a team that has no consistency. He was overlooked last year, for a similar numbers and he gives the Reds a chance, each time he takes the mound.

Relief pitchers, are put in position to hold and save. Weathers has been shaky more times, than he's solid.

Harang's ERA for his first 5 wins (half his wins) was over 5, hardly the model of consistency.

The last 6 weeks, I'll give you but early on he was a lucky bystander to incredible run support.

The Reds scored 40 runs his first 5 wins, 8 a game. Heck, Milton might have won those games.

His ERA has dropped by 2 runs in the last two months.
If a reliever's ERA, has dropped by 2 in the last 2 months, that says two things.

1) He struggled at some point, with runs allowed in a short period of time, during the season.

2) Weathers is not allowing his own batters, to reach and score, nearly as much before. He's not the K type of pitcher and that will lead to runners but he's been good, very good at times but without starting pitching like Harang brings, the need for closers is then to maintain and now save.

They both have been great, but to say Harang has been solid all year is not the case. He struggled early on and got some great run support.

Check out a running log of each's games. Weathers has been pretty consistent, all things considered.

Harang has come his last 6-7 starts.

Weathers

He will be a great set-up pitcher if the Reds decide to trade him, which I hope they don't, because then the Reds will give up 4 runs in the 8th AND 9th. :D Harang has been the great pitcher in the rotation, and Weathers out of the bullpen. When I see either pitching, I don't expect any runs at all, but that is just the impression they have given this year.

Here's my contention and I'm not comparing them as, who stats are best but the role they are in.

Harang is a starter, whose role is to give his team a chance to win, give them 6-7 innings and bring in relief. He's done that this year and last, with certainly some bumps.

Weathers is a closer, whose role is to not allowed inherited runners to score, keep his batter from reaching and preserve the win.

Ask yourself, who has done a better job, with their role....Harang, in my book.
