July 12, 200719 yr This is a very concerning stance he is taking, at least to me it is....I will not ever hear another MAN tell me that others who live good lives, and worship the same God and Jesus Christ that I do.....are not on the same page... If you believe that, then it seems that would create a serious conflict as far as being a member of the Catholic Church. Unless I'm misunderstanding their doctrine, that is and has always been the Catholic stance. It seems to me to defy logical thought for Protestants to make the claim that Catholics can't be saved...if that were the case, there would have be no one saved to start the Protestant movement in the first place. Just a thought. Either way, I don't think either side has all the answers, but for one or the other to make statements that the other side doesn't have the means of salvation is absurd, IMO. As Larry said, Jesus is available to all...and that goes beyond the confines of Protestant and Catholic. I think we need to tell people the road to salvation...Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life."...there is no other way...we need to tell people that and let God lead them in how they serve Him, whether it be in a Catholic or Protestant Church, or some other way. It's not for men to decide.

OR Calling yourself American, British, German, Japanes or Chinese as opposed to a human being. Simply a sub-grouping for the sake of ideological differences in this case as opposed to where you were born with the above example. :thumb: I understand that, yet those are man-made groups. I just have a hard time calling myself something if I cannot find the scripture in the bible that tells me to call myself something other that a christian, does that make sense?

July 12, 200719 yr I don't understand....you have an issue with following the 10 Commandments? :lol: Some people in this thread are deliberately focused on tearing down the structure of the Catholic Church, or focused on details that, in the scope of things, are inconsequential. How many people do you know that profess to be good Christians, but do nothing to help the needy, support their church or talk trash about everyone them? These "rules" of the Catholic church clearly spell out that it is not acceptable. They in effect give us a cheat sheet into acceptable behavior. Your post completely takes only the last part of information I posted, and ignores the information about loving God above all else, and loving your neighbor. It completely ignores the call to believe in the teachings of Jesus, the Incarnation, the Holy Trinity et al. You zoomed in on one part of the whole picture and pronounced the sum to be erroneous. No, I was just wanting clarification on what Catholics believe to be the way of salvation. What you describe is a works salvation. People who are truly Christians will do those things listed in your post out of their love of what the Saviour did for them, not to "earn" or "work" their way to heaven. I was simply seeing if I had understood correctly.:confused:

I respect that you are dedicated to your faith, but I just can't agree with giving honor to a single (human) man, that man being the pope. I read in this encyclopedia that they have things to show reverence to him like a tiara, a cross and the fact that they kiss his feet. I still see him as a human and from what I read there, the signs point to him as a go-between us and Christ and I just can't find the scripture to back that up for me. Who's to say Christ wasn't trying to build his church on Peter's confession?
