Checklist for Being Country

Had RC Cola and a Moon Pie for lunch from the local country store.

Bought your bonogna by the "hunk" at the same country store...

Yes on both and still do. ;)

The former American Idol contestant and now Country music artist Bucky Covington has song out now "a differenht world" that talks a lot about this as far as the way times have changed but maybe the way we grew up wasn't all that bad.

Imo it was much better than what is going on today.:thumb:

I didn't have baby sitter to do it but I have been "switched".....Mom used a switch and dad would use his hand or belt.

Time Outs??? My Dad would take time out of his day to whip my butt :scared: That was the only time outs.

"Time Out" was the time it took you to walk to the tree to get the switch.

If you think " Third Time Out " is a reference to how many times your uncle has been in and out of jail instead of being the name of a musical group. :D

Speaking of that song, how old is that dude??? I know he's not as old as he talks about in those songs. Good song by the way.

I have discharged firearms in the city limits of my hometown numerous times, which is highly illegal, but no one thinks anything of it because killing those nasty varmints did everybody in the neighborhood a service.

You know people who never lock their doors, even when on vacation, and always leave the keys in their vehicles overnight.

Let's see if I qualify.............

1. I lived in a town with "no" stoplight.

2. I grew up using an outhouse.

3. I thought "everyone" had put peanuts in their bottle of "pop".

4. I remember buying bologna in a hunk.

5. Entertainment for us was smashing hedgehogs in the middle of

the road.

6. We "didn't" have a key to lock our house.

7. We used magazine and newspapers for ...let's say we used them for

more than just reading:D

8. We played in the creek behind our house and thought it just didn't

get much better than that...and truly...it didn't.

9. We were told what to do by all the neighbors and our parents

didn't have a problem with it. Maybe if we still felt like that

our kids wouldn't be in such trouble.

Drum roll.............................

10. I remember wishing I didn't live in this little horse town and just

knowing that there was more out there somewhere and I was going

to do my darnest to find it. Well I did find it and ya know what.....

there wasn't a darn thing wrong with that little horse town after all.

You definately qualify, Rebel :thumb: :thumb: - And as far as living in the one horse town, moving and wishing you were back. I am still living in the little one horse town I grew up and am dang proud of it ;) . I highlighted the ones that I have personally "experienced" :D

I am as proud as punch to tell everyone where I grew up. My Mom had to make a quick decision on where to move us, when my father died, and I tell her all the time that she couldn't have made a better choice. Laying on the ground at night watching the stars and smelling the fresh cut hay. Laying on the ground during the day and picking out objects in the clouds. Playing in the fields with all your friends. Running with your friends after dark and not being afraid. Borrowing pears from neighbors pear trees - when they weren't looking:sssh: ;) Man it just doesn't get any better than that:thumb:

How very lucky I am that I fell in love with a man who grew up exactly like I did. We both have made our way in the world and have experienced much more than our small towns allowed us to and we both know that we don't live life now any different than we did then.

I was raised in a county that never has had a stop light. Probably the only county in the state with that status.

I used to put peanuts in mine...did you??

:thumb: I sure did. I also had the moon pie and bologna. My dad refered to the bologna as "Railroad Steak".

Thanks for the memories.

:thumb: Excellent post. You have lived life as it was meant to be. Thanks for sharing a part of it with us.

Is "fried bologna" particular to "country?" I can eat that with melted cheese and mayo ALL DAY.

That's the one I was going to offer...definitely country and one of my favorite meals, lol. I made some just the other day. I've had moon pies as well...amazing.

Looking for crawdads (or whatever you wanna call them).

Walking in the creek barefoot and swimming in it everyday.

My dad refered to the bologna as "Railroad Steak".

Thanks for the memories.

Used to make those when I was little, but dad always called them "umbrella steaks" because of the way they'd bubble up in the middle while cooking.
