July 11, 200719 yr Speaking of the moral high ground; the robocalls went out last night... http://www.courier-journal.com/blogs/politics/blog.html I can't see where either party has a monopoly on morality, playing fair, whatever you want to call it.
July 11, 200719 yr Perhaps, but he has also put rank amateur clowns in most other positions. That's why he got in trouble to begin with. I can't argue with you.
July 11, 200719 yr Perhaps, but he has also put rank amateur clowns in most other positions. That's why he got in trouble to begin with. That's pretty typical with most governors. They fill open positions with people that they owe. Patton appinted a member of my family to a postion that they were totally unqualified to do. Simply because they had worked so many political campaigns.
July 11, 200719 yr I know I'm swimming against the current here, but I agree with Williams. The House democrats were so sure the governor was making a political power play, they pulled a bigger one themselves instead of simply taking care of business and then going home and telling everyone what a jerk they think the governor is. As a result, they have not only lost any moral high ground for making such statements, they may have indeed broken the law to boot. Which when you boil it right down is kinda funny... We need new players in the game. Exactly...and for people like Jim asking why now when these are some bills the Gov. vetoed earlier, the answer is the state was 100s of millions in debt when Fletcher vetoed the projects, and now at the end of his term there is a huge surplus. Hence, the money is now available... House Dems really looking pitiful here...

C'mon, we all know the real reason he wanted to do this: So he could get something on this domestic partner insurance thingy so that he could motivate social conservatives to come out to the polls in the fall and try to make people forget his scandal.

This cuts both ways. People that vote Democratic in rural parts of Kentucky tend to be very conservative on some issues (gun control, abortion, same-sex marriage etc.). The representatives from those areas wanted no part of having to vote on that issue. Either they vote in favor of the plan and alienate the conservative part of their base or they vote against the plan and alienate the liberal branch of their party. This whole thing stinks from BOTH sides of the aisle.
July 11, 200719 yr They get paid anywhere from 180 -225 dollars a day for nothing... thanks alot Ernie.

Don't put words into my mouth. There is enough blame to go around. As far as I'm concerned, they all suck. However, the Dems' usual whining, while at the same time holding up things that need to get done makes my skin crawl...as Fastbreak pointed out, the Dems could have had the moral high ground, but gave it up... I thought Ernie was 30 points behind. What do they have to worry about? This may come back to bite them in the rear, and let Ernie back in the game...
July 11, 200719 yr Thank Richards and the Dems, they're the reason they got it for nothing. Since they were the ones complaining about the cost to the taxpayers, surely they will do the right thing and not accept pay for doing nothing...
July 11, 200719 yr Author Well this session is officially adjourned by the Governor so they aren't getting anything anymore. They're also going to include a bill when the session reconvenes forfeiting their pay which is tricky because 1.) I'm not exactly sure if they can do that, and 2.) they are going to have to approve it, and it's looking like the Democrats in the House are firmly entrenched in not coming back.

They can do this, but it's, ironically enough, something that has to be voted on by both the House and Senate.

I don't know how credible it is, but the most recent poll had Ernie trailing by 2 points with something like 20-30% undecided.

Whether that actually happens or not, well ...
