July 24, 200719 yr Are KY lawmakers being paid for the special session??? After Ernie Fletcher called the special session, lawmakers showed up then voted to adjourn the special session and went home. A local news organzation in eastern KY is reporting that lawmakers are still collecting $200 per day for special session pay. Does anyone have information to verify this or dispute??? IMO, If they adjourned and went home then the pay should have stopped also....that's how it works where I work. If you don't show up, you don't get paid.

Many would argue they don't work even when they are there. I, and alot of KY taxpayers DO have a problem with OUR Representatives being paid for not being there.

Many would argue they don't work even when they are there. The Democrats in the house had to know that this would be a possibility when they pulled their adjournment stunt, if they didn't then they should be held accountable for not researching the consequences of their actions. Quite frankly I'm less then sympathetic with representatives that may not be getting paid at their regular job because of this. Simple solution, do your job and hold the session. Regardless of their personal feelings the Governor has the authority to call special sessions. If the legislature wants to take that power away from him/her then they should change the law. That's what legislatures are supposed to do. But wait, they won't do that because their party may be in power again sometime and he/she may want to call a special session that will help him/her politically and they wouldn't want to prevent that would they?

Personally, I am sick of party politics as a whole... ...since when did the concern become what is good for the rebublican party or what is good for the democratic party??? How refreshing it would be if a representative of the people would say just one time, "My concern is what is good for ALL Kentuckians"....and mean it. Seems to me it used to be that way occasionally.
