And where was Clinton at this point in the summer of 1991?

Probably with his wife's girlfriend, and/or dodging a draft somewhere...

Seriously, you think Edwards is in Bill Clinton's league??? Get real...

Again, Edwards = no shot.

Coulter is a very smart lady that understands the media better than anyone. She knows that her comments are going to spark this kind of reaction. She knows that when the media starts to attack her the books start flying off the shelf. She knows that the people will be talking. She will be in demand on the cable and Sunday morning news shows...

I think the fact that Mrs. Edwards called up and confronted Coulter makes the campaign look weak. You got to be tough when you are running for President of the United States. I understand that alot of this was for fund raising purposes and that Coulter's quotes will be stuffed in mailings and e-mails. Could you imagine if Mrs. Bush (either one, I suppose...) called up and asked GWB's enemies to stop the attacks? I think this would have been best to ignore by Mrs. Edwards...

I always liked the politcal line 'Don't swing at pitches in the dirt.'

I have really only sat and listened to Coulter a hand full of times. This is my observation of her...

- She looks like a "ho"

- She dresses some what like a "ho"

- She trys to sound intelligent and comes off as a jealous dumb blonde

- It is shocking to me that she's actually a lawyer

We are discussing how Coulter's comments lack a certain bit of class... right?

And are you a Republican or a Democrat? Early on it looks like this has helped the Edwards campaign with Democrats, which is still in Primary mode you know.

And I certainly have ZERO problem with Mrs. Edwards making the call. It was her dead son that Coulter said something about. It was her husband that Coulter called (what she called him.) Elizabeth Edwards is making a tremendous sacrifice of her time to this campaign, and she's earned the right to make that phone call, IMO.

Some of you may think that Michael Moore is disgusting, un-American, vile and useless. I have the same opinion of this woman (Coulter, not Edwards.) She makes me sick.

I have this opinion of her also, I can't stomach her.

Edwards has no shot.

Maybe not, but does that really have anything to do with the basic message that Elizabeth Edwards was making? It wasn't merely about her own husband and his political aspiration, and Coulter's remarks about John Edwards.

It was a message to all who utilize the media and/or their fame to make such repugnant, vile, nasty remarks about others. Maybe the straw that broke the camel's back was the remark directed toward John Edwards, and provoked her into acting. But, the message was comprehensive.

Here's something that I wonder. We all HATE negative campaign ads, attack ads. Between those and this kind of rhetoric from "commentators" and "mouthpieces", is it any wonder that voters are uneducated and full of apathy? By the time you sort through the crap, there's no time left to "get to the root" of a candidate's platform.

Bravo, RM.

I turned my back on the political scene LONG ago because of this very thing. I try very hard not to read anything any candidate says and I will not discuss politics in specifics with anyone. I look at a candidate's record and read a few trusted columnists from both sides when I can.

That does make me somewhat uneducated and for the most part very apathetic to the whole thing. But I can tell you, I am happier and better adjusted person and I focus my attention on other things that bring me happiness instead of discontent and hatred.

Why does everyone I know who is really "into" politics seem to walk around seething and looking for an argument from the other side?

What I do, when researching candidates, is go to the websites for the campaign first. That's where I get the "hire-me because..." info. Then, if someone has been in politics before, it's easy to find the voting record, etc. of that candidate. Then, I read anything I can find that they may have written....it doesn't matter what it is..it will help me get a "feeling" for that candidate.

Some are harder to research, if they're not as publicly known.

I'll tell you this. One of the things that influenced me the most to support Ross Perot was the book I read about his time with GM. Not only did that book influence me to support him, but his philosophies are why I support a change to a governement run like a business, banning career politicians, and the creation of a viable third political party.

I would feel the same if Laura Bush called Michael Moore and told him to quit picking on her husband. Moore and Coulter (and others) are in this process of selling their products and ambushing these candidates / office holders. Once you respond to them you are playing on their level. You are giving them more legitimacy than they deserve. You don't like Moore or Coulter? This response makes them important. Fuel the fire and you'll create more and more of them. Ignore them or laugh at them in passing and be above the criticism. If by chance Edwards would become President would the family pout and respond to all these charges? I would hope not...

Funny how you can defend Coulter so staunchly, and villify Michael Moore just as staunchly.
Out of context is exactly what it was, he wasn't defending Coulter, just telling the truth. Edwards is the guily party in this one.

BTW, isn't Edwards such a great guy putting the quote on his website in an effort to get campaign contributions. ;)

I was thinking the same thing...:thumb:
