June 19, 200719 yr I don't think it will be quite the barrage that opened the game last year. UK is going to score early. It'll be later in the game that Louisville pulls away with their depth. :thumb:

Please tell me that if UL plays the way they did in the spring game UK will not have a chance! Are you kidding me, if UL and Brohm play that way UK will be in it all the way. I didn't say UK would win and I did not say UL would play that way ina a game I said if they play like they did in the spring game UK will be in it.That's all that I am saying and it's the truth and you know it.
June 20, 200719 yr I WAs at the UK Spring Game and the Defense did looked improved. They had a lot more movement than last year and I could already see the differences with the new coordinator. The defense ran more zone blitzes than just these soft zone coverages teams picked apart in years past. They seemed to adjust a little quicker and did not get away from what worked. The thing that reall frustrated me previously was UK getting away from what worked. In the CMU game last year UK came out on fire on both sides of the ball. They were swarming on defense and getting after the Quarterback. They got a decent lead and guess what? They backed off. The completely went away from what was working on defense and let the Chippewas not only get back in the game but almost win. This was a staple of the Mike Archer era. Get a double digit lead and completely get away from what was working, let the other team back in, and lose. So can you tell fromthe Spring Game that UK can run with UofL? Heck no. Because even though the defense looked sharper the offense line was simply horrendous. So while, play calling wise, the defense looked better it was hard to tell if they really executing that well or if it was because the Offensive Line could not hold a block longer than Billy Donovan's NBA career. To me this is the biggest concern of 2007. We have tons of weapons on offense but NONE of them matter if we can't block in the trenches. So while I am not so doom and gloom on the schedule as some, I think they can win 7 or 8 games if everything falls into place. They have some good Freshmen lineman coming in that I didn't get to see in the Spring Game that hopefully will help out. I think we will see improvement on defense in 2007, but I still think we have a long way to go. And, as many Cardnial fans have pointed out, Rich Brooks has no track record of consistent success. I think last year was fun and great, but I am still not sold on Rich Brooks (or any UK Coach) until they win on some sort of consistent basis. I think he can do it, now he just has to do it. And he has to quit hiding us under rock and running from National TV.

While that may be true, it also needs to be noted that Kragthorpe himself said they didn't show much of the running game in this practice game which we know will still be pretty potent considering that they split carries with so many underclassmen last year. That said I seem to recall you saying that last year's game was going to be closer than people thought and that UK might well beat the Cards.

You ever heard of the old saying the way you practice is the way you play?

Everyone sure is quick to make excuses and down play the poor performance by UL in the spring game. Why are there absolutely no concerns? The fact that this is a new coaching staff and the loss of several key starters does that bother anyone?

Different coach takes a different outlook on how to handle the spring game and it is an excuse? I could agree with you if it was Petrino in charge and they played it the way the played them during his tenure and looked like that. Not with a new coach and a new way of doing things though.
