Colerain-Hoover game off for Sept. 2

Just got off the phone with Colerain AD Dan Bolden, who said the Cardinals won't play Hoover (Ala.) in the Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge Sunday, Sept. 2 at Nippert Stadium.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association denied Hoover's appeal today of an earlier decision by the governing body that the squad wasn't allowed to play the game on a Sunday.

Bolden emphasized Colerain is still in the Herbstreit event and is looking for another opponent with event organizer Josh Johnston.

"I've talked to Josh and we're going to move on," Bolden said. "We're going to try to find someone else."

Bolden said he was still hopeful the new game would be on national cable TV.

"We kind of feel sorry for the kids," Bolden said. "(The AHSAA) do what they do and it's none of our business. We're not angry or upset or anything like that."

Bolden didn't deny the possibility of Colerain playing Hoover on a Saturday.

"It's too preliminary to go over that," he said. "You have issues with TV and all that stuff."

An e-mail and phone message was left with Johnston a few minutes ago.

Kirk Herbstreit today ackowledged some mistakes and financial losses in previous Kirk Herbstreit Ohio vs. USA Challenge football events, but the ESPN/ABC college analyst said his 2007 high school football event is ready to move forward.

Herbstreit, in a telephone interview today with the Enquirer, said a St. Xavier-DeMatha (Md.) matchup on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 12:05 p.m. will be among the highlights of this year's 11-game event. St. Xavier-DeMatha tentatively is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN, Herbstreit said.

ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said nothing has been finalized.

I love how the Cincinnati Enquirer Makes Trotwood the only Ohio team listed like an out of state team.....LOL

Is there any word as to whether or not the Hoover/Colerain game will be televised still?

How so?

^^^ When the enquirer lists the games they have all the Ohio teams first except for TM.

I understand they are trying to sell papers, but its an Ohio event not a Cincinnati event.

OK, Off my soapbox. Back to things we can control.

Wow! I didn't realize you guys up there were that sensitive!

My guess would be that they just try to list the better teams first. :thumb:

No St.X and DeMatha will be on ESPN now.

CLASSIC!

I hope we all run into you Highlands folks for the pregame stuff. You all seem like a fun bunch.

I just got back from my Birmingham golf trip....I was paired up with a very high ranking Jefferson county official, we were talking about Hoover High, then he told me that Hoover's head coach Rush Propst was in very hot water and looked for him to resign within two weeks....I will not go into the details since this info has not been released, but I took this man for his word and hope I am not made a fool of......
