June 14, 200719 yr The argument that some of those guys wouldn't have been HOF guys is just plain crazy because its not like they are fringe HOF guys, they are top 50 NBA players...... Duncan might be the most overrated great player in NBA history. I get tired of people saying he is underrated and that fans should appreciate him more. He is good and a top 5-8 PF of all-time but he is not in the top 10 players of all-time, maybe not top 20.... He's the best PF to play the game and there isn't anyone close. Malone would be the closest and Duncan is bigger, a better ball handler, has more touch, a better mid-range shot, and more rings in a game that is now drawing world wide talent opposed to US talent.

I am as big of a Duncan/Spurs fan there is, but in fairness to the mailman, he was deadly from about 15-16 feet; Tim is not near the mid-range jump shooter threat Malone was... he would even tell you that. But in other areas, such as on defense, Tim easily has the upper hand.
June 14, 200719 yr I am not a Spurs fan but Duncan IS one of the top 5 PF of all time without a doubt. Bruce Bowen has success defending the best players in the world. Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli are almost impossible to guard off the dribble. And not mention Horry is one of the best clutch performers in all of sports. Are they better than the '80s Celtics and Lakers? Not yet, but they are building a resume that will make a pretty good argument by the time their small dynasty is over.

My rankings on players I've seen play.... 1)Malone 2)McHale 3)Barkley 4)Duncan Petit and McAdoo are a little tougher to evaluate because of the time in which they played. They were almost larger than life type people, if you know what I mean. If you check out their numbers, they are really impressive. McAdoo was hampered by injuries a little more through his career. The thing that separates Duncan (or puts him at this elite level), is not his ability to score (22 and 12 for his career, btw), but his ability to defend. I believe he has been first team defense every season but two. And in those he was 2nd team (not 100% on that). You can make a case for each listed, imo.

What? Just because his "task" was harder due to being shorter doesn't mean that he was a better player. Using that logic Muggsy Bogues is the best point guard ever!

I wonder if Duncan would have went to a bad team like he should have and not had Robinson to tutor him how good you guys would think he would be....

The David Robinson statement has me confused. Right around Duncan's second or third year in the league someone interviewed Robinson and he claimed that Duncan was already a better player than he was. The thing is, everyone already knew it.
