June 16, 200719 yr The NBA has opened it's talent-pool to the entire world. Seriously how does that not make the competition better now than ever before. People here are still hooping, but even fewer make it due to people from other countries. 3 years in a row the MVP has been a foreigner. That never happened in the 80's. The talent is better, bigger, faster, and stronger than it's ever been. It's an evolving game. Some were before their times (Magic, Wilt) and there games would still be effective today, but the 6'2" SG who can't dunk can't even make an NBDL roster.
June 16, 200719 yr The Spurs teams have been great! Don't get me wrong. But if I would put them behind the 90's Bulls, the 80's Lakers and Celtics, and the old Lakers' teams of Wilt Chamberlain. These Spurs just know how to win. The greatest thing to ever happen to this franchise was David Robinson's injury. This allowed them to have a horrid season and to win the draft lottery, and draft Duncan. And the greatest thing to ever happen to Tim Duncan was to be drafted by the Spurs. He was able to learn the ropes of NBA life from one of the classiest players and all around good guys to play the game in David Robinson. Learning the NBA lifestyle is critical to the success of a player and with Duncan having Robinson to take him under his wing and show him the ropes was crucial in turning him into the player he is today!:thumb:

Fans like you want high-flyers with all kinds of up-side and potential, so teams draft them.....and they suck or are better known as the Hawks and the Eastern Conference Smart teams, better known as the Spurs, Suns, Mavericks or the Western Conference, take foreign players like you mentioned because they are complete players, or for some of you that are basketball knowledge impaired, like players of the past who might not dunk from the FT line but have this thing called the mid-range jumper, or the ability to throw a pass other than the lob-pass for a dunk. Duncan is as fundamentally sound as they get aside from his FT shooting, so he is a rarity BUT more players where fundamentally sound in the period of Magic, Bird, etc. Heck teams have trouble scoring in the 80's with the 3 point line and all these "athletes" you guys love, 100's was the norm back in the day.

Never did I say that. Manu isn't 6'2" and he can dunk. He's a complete player, not a 6'2" shooter only. Parker can also dunk and is incredibly athletic.

June 19, 200719 yr This Spurs team would not have been able to win a series against the great Bulls teams, the Magic Johnson lead Laker teams, the Celtic teams of the 80's or the 82-83 Sixer team with Mose Malone, Julius Erving, Maruice Cheeks, Andrew Toney and Caldwell and Bobby Jones. The teams were much deeper back then due to there being less teams in the NBA and teams were together longer too. Horry should be happy for the ride he has been on and just let it go at that.
June 19, 200719 yr Duncan - 4 Championships. Malone and Barkley combined = 0 Championships. End of story. And don't tell me Malone and Barkley never had good teams, or always had to play Jordan. Jordan didn't win it every year. Uh, by that logic, Horry is better than Duncan.

I wonder if Duncan would have went to a bad team like he should have and not had Robinson to tutor him how good you guys would think he would be.... Plus during the 2 years while Jordan was playing baseball, some guy by the name of Hakeem won.

If Darko Milicic had been a few years older and went to the Spurs and had Robinson tutor him how good he would be. Or what if the Spurs had signed Robert "tractor" Traylor and put him under Robinson's wing? Neither of those players, and most power forwards ever, would have been anywhere close to Duncan's level, so don't try and say that Duncan is only a result of good surroundings.
June 19, 200719 yr How am I the only one who includes the foreign player migration to the NBA. Doesn't that make the NBA better? There was very few foreign NBA players until recently and the spike recently has improved the talent. The talent today is better than the talent in the 80's and 90's. The talent in the 80's and 90's was top heavy, but the NBA today is more talented than ever before. It's a world wide league.
June 19, 200719 yr Uh, by that logic, Horry is better than Duncan. Horry was never the number 1 option/focus and Duncan has always been the go-to guy.
June 19, 200719 yr Uh, by that logic, Horry is better than Duncan. Horry's numbers aren't even close. You understand what I meant by that. Malone's numbers aren't that much better than Duncan's, and Duncan has 4 more championships than Malone.
