Looking back on the bar that I have set, George W. Bush, has failed in most of my requirements. His father actually was a good Presidential candidate by my standards, as was Reagan. Clinton was not. Carter was not. Ford was not. Nixon was not. LBJ was. Its difficult to look prior to LBJ, because I think the world is different.

 

Dick Cheney would not qualify for me, much as I like the man, because he's too much of a policy wonk. Now, John Foster Dulles would have met my qualifications.

1. A candidate who is socially conservative to moderate, and fiscally conservative.

 

2. A believer in small yet effective government (I personally don't see any candidate in either party who will champion the cause for smaller government)

 

3. A candidate who believes the courts shouldn't be used to legislate issues, but rather adjudicate them.

 

4. Someone who believes in a strong military and wants to provide effective border control (of all borders).

 

5. Someone who believes that the taste of a beer is more important than whether it fills you up.

 

6. Lastly, a candidate whose last name doesn't begin with an E and end with an S.

What's wrong with you guys? It's obvious that he's talking about Edwards. You know, Congressman Chet Edwards from Texas?

I'm not particularly partisan, but I'm a registered Republican, so I will post here. Some of these issues may be fulfilled more by Democratic candidates, some will be fulfilled more by Republican candidates, and some will be fulfilled by neither.

 

I want someone most concerned with the economy rather than social issues.

 

I would like to see a President well versed in international affairs. I don’t want to see an isolationist foreign policy; I want someone to lead the world. I want an integrator, and I want free trade.

 

I want a president who is going to be efficient with his defense money. I want a strong military and strong anti-terrorism intelligence, but I don’t want a president who is going to hide behind it or just throw money at it to get some votes.

 

The Democrats are going to bring universal healthcare to the forefront this election. Our healthcare system, most notably the insurance, is becoming increasingly problematic and unattainable. We have some of the best healthcare in the world, as far as major surgeries go, but poor kids in the city can’t get antibiotics when they’re sick. It’s a problem. I’m not a proponent of universal healthcare, but something needs to be done. I want a candidate who isn't going to prattle on about gay marriage or abortion but will come up with, and openly discuss, a real solution that doesn't involve complete state ownership of hospitals and doctors offices.

 

I want someone who will privatize social security.

 

I want someone who will make us competitive in education.

 

I would like to see someone who will step up and address the problems of our inner-cities.

 

Like Hearsay mentioned, I would like someone who is savvy, a good debater and who will surround himself with the best.

I personally look for a stereotypical conservative. One who is pro-life, pro-second amendment, and pro-small government. I want a person who is for a strong military, and wants to protect the US from criminals, foreign and domestic. If I could make the perfect president he would also be honest and command respect. Also, a person who is a good orator, such as Ronald Reagan, who can express him self in a professional manner and unify the people.

 

Disclaimer: When I used masculine nouns such as himself, I was not saying the president should be a male. I would vote for a female if I thought that person would make a good president, ie: Condoleeza Rice.

 

 

This is pretty much how I see things as well. Almost too a T, I'd have to give it more thought before saying much more. But at this time yes this is my perfect republican presidential candidate in a nut shell.

Put my disclaimer up first: This is what I look for in a Presidential candidate whether it is Republican or Democrat. I don't really care about the letter after their name but rather they represent my values. That is the same for almost any election. Local is a little different.

 

That said.

 

Pro-life first and foremost.

 

From that point, fiscally conservative (my biggest disappointment in GW) and putting clampers on the pork spending.

 

Strong military presence and not afraid to act decisively when it is called for.

 

Look for a President who wants to put money in my pocket and let me spend it to help keep the economy strong. They need to be about creating jobs and let the wages be determined by the private enterprise system.

 

They are a committed Christian meaning they look to put the practices of their faith 24/7 and not just showing up on a Sunday morning.

I want a man who understands and appreciates the functions and limitations of the executive branch, and has an appreciation for the history of the office.

 

I prefer a man who is gifted in debate.

 

I want a man who is very serious about his role as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, keeps up with emerging military tactics and technology, supports it with the country's wallet, and either grasps tactics in battle time himself or follows closely the reins he has turned over to his generals.

 

I don't want a policy wonk. I want the President's closest advisor to be a policy wonk.

 

I want a man who has been married and has raised children. I want a man who is physically fit (that excludes me). I want a man with an advanced degree in some area. I prefer a man whose educational credentials are impeccable. I prefer an Academy graduate above all others. I want a man who has spent a considerable period of time working in the private sector, preferring a law or finance background above others. I then prefer a man whom has also had at least some administrative government experience.

 

I prefer a man who has suffered loss and dealt with it.

 

I want a man who is well-versed in etiquette and protocol, both domestic and foreign.

 

I want a man who has a demonstrated leadership background. In my walk through life, I am still defining what that really means.

 

I want a man who is tough enough to win an election.

 

I want a man who acts the same way when noone is looking. I want a man who commands respect through the force of his voice and gaze. I want a man who starts the conversation, and gets others to end it.

I look for someone that will continue to stand up for what WE as Americans were bred to believe...and to protect all who claim freedom as their credo.
