If you bring an airhorn to graduation you have issues.

In the article I read it indicated that there were complaints from the previous year because some parents never heard their child's name read because of the whoops of joy from a group of parents reacting to their child's name being read.

So while you blast the administration for the PARENT'S CHOOSING to violate the contract that they voluntarily signed, remember it was put in place to protect others parents in HEARING their child's name read.

I'm not blasting anyone, but I believe in this case the punishment(withholding of diploma) does not fit the offense.

What is the other option that the school has to encourage next year's senior class to not infringe on the other parents' desire to hear their child's name called out?

What should have happened then????

I think it's simple, they signed the contract and didn't honor it, hopefully it will deter future friends/family to think twice about it. After reading the article, I would be very upset if after 12 years of schooling my parents/family were unable to hear my name mentioned.

I don't like this. I absolutely hate people yelling and screaming at graduations when their son/daughter/friend/whatever walks. It's not classy and it's annoying. But if I really didn't like someone, I'd go to graduation and cheer for them! I think they need to find a better way of discouraging this.

These are seniors gone out of the school, what is the better way?

I have no idea. I guess it isn't that bad of a policy, especially if everyone agrees to it, but it can be exploited.

Maybe nothing...Not all things in life can be regulated or controlled...if they could there would be no rednecks and a lot more class in the world.

I say do nothing. These kids only graduate from hs once, and the parents and friends only get to see them graduate once. When you go to a graduation you know you are going to be there for a while, no one thinks it's going to be over in 20 minutes.

As for graduates names not be heard, I think that is the fault of the person announcing the names, I would venture to say that person was mad because of the cheering and trying to make a point. He should have paused for the cheering to die down.

This is like asking people to not cheer at a football game until the game is over, then cheer for both teams together. That will happen.

Let the graduates enjoy the moment, cheer if you want, sit on your hands if you want.

Give me a break.... act like adults, and comparing a football game to a graduation.....I don't think so......

If those who were cheering really did it out of love, then maybe, but at each graducation that I have attended those that do it, do it to draw attention to themselves and their child. Really a shame.....

Didn't mean to offend you, just stating my opinion. The analogy was comparing the likelihood of people not cheering at a football game, to the likelihood of people not cheering at a graduation, not comparing a graduation to a football game. I think the likelihood of fans not cheering at a football game is the same as the likelihood of people not cheering at a graduation. I have been to quite a few graduations, and I have yet to attend one that people did not cheer.

Personally I wouldn't have cared if I didn't get a diploma from my high school but it is absolutely absurd to punish one person for the acts of others.

So if I understand this correctly, the youngsters are still graduates, still can go to college, still get their names announced AT graduation, still get to walk across the stage, still get to go party afterwards.

What's the issue? How are they being punished?

Just attended a graduation tonight and I must say it was a very nice ceremony. The speeches were awsome. However I did see a very few enthusiastic parents and that was fine, but the funny thing is I have never seen these parents at school picnics, serving in the lunch room, bringing up snacks when ask, helping with the teacher recognition days, or any other of those parent things that we as parents are asked on a regular basis. :irked:
