That is nothing new they threatened to do that to us at Manual when I graduated. When we were handed our diploma covers they were empty we had to see the counselors after the gradation for the actual diploma papers, I remember that very clearly. And since then I have been at graduations at J-Town and Manual where family and graduates were escorted out the door for excessive celebration.

And while I feel that is a bit draconian I do think that graduation from High School should be a time of pomp and circumstance but also in this day in age it should be expected and there is no reason to celebrate during the ceremony like it is some be surprise or relief that you actually passed High school, celebrate when you get home. Graduating high school should be expected.

 

I'm with you brother. I mentioned this to Henry at our son's graduation Saturday evening and got a scornful look from her. We need to be honest folks: graduating from high school isn't all that tough. Show up to school and put forth just a moderate level of effort and you'll graduate. Graduating from college is a little tougher I'll admit and is an accomplishment to be proud of. Still, I think cheering/yelling or whatever is inappropriate for college graduation also.

This is stupid, on both parties I think.

Heck, at my brothers graduation a few weeks ago, their whole senior class was throwing beach balls, blowing canfetti, yellling, and shooting silly string in air as it was still going on!

I just wanted to point out that only 5 students were denied their diplomas. The school put 4 spotters in the stands and all 4 spotters had the same 5 students names listed.

And as they say, there are idiots in every crowd..... but that doesn't make it right or fair to all.

 

Our society is getting less civil each day, and going toward from what is best for everyone, to what is best for me. I go to a nice restaurant and have to listen to someone talking on a cell phone all during dinner. I go to a movie and the idiots who have seen the movie before yell out what is going to happen next. I fly on a plane and have people listening to music so loud in the seat next to me that those three/four rows behind can hear it too. I have seen far too many drivers literally run another driver off the road, just to get ahead in traffic. Yes all of the above are a problem and it is getting worse. When someone in charge request you to follow certain rules/standard and you don't, then it is you who is out of line....not the rules..... But as I wrote at the beginning, there are idiots in every crowd and rules and standards were never meant for them to follow or so they think....the rules and standards are just for eveybody else....

I'll add this: What ever happened to honoring your word? It used to be that you could take a man/woman for his or her word, but it seems that in today's society this is less and less likely to happen. So we make people sign contracts. And what do they then do? They break them. Going back against what they had agreed upon previously. What a great example to set for these young adults........
