I would like to know more about the year by year won loss record for the teams since several people have challenged those posted. I have yet to see concrete numbers for several of the teams mentioned, including Ludlow. Why is it so hard to come up with records?

There is your answer to what St. henry and Scott have done since 2000. Granted Scott was 8th region for the last two years but still have competed heavily in 9th region action.

it seems as if some teams havent posted all of their scored to KHSAA website. Going to be hard to scores for games that go back 7 years. Plus records hardly mean anything. You could put up a 70-30 record over 4 years but its all about the teams your playing against. Is a UK team that goes 20-11 really worse then a little sisters of the poor team who goes 25-6?

CCH, Ryle, Boone, Brossart, Conner, Holy Cross, Beechwood, St Henry, NCC, Dixie, SK, Scott.

 

Well first of all thank you for FINALLY putting teams that you would have in front of Ludlow, instead of just saying why you think Ludlow isn't a top team since 2001. :thumb:

 

Secondly though I know I messed up in the title of the thread, however you know I am talking about the 9th region so you should take out Brossart. And well for SK and Scott I guess we should only count the first 5 years, since the last two they have been in a new region.

 

However for Conner, St. Henry, NCC, SK, and Scott. What have they done that would have you put them over Ludlow, that wouldn't go against the arguments you been saying for not having Ludlow as one of the top teams?

Well this is a thread about since 2001, and you posted since 2000, so then we would just have to take away some of the regional appearances from some teams who made it in 2000 to go along with this discussion...

 

However by looking at this from top teams since 2000 my list would be:

 

CovCath

Beechwood

Boone

Dixie

Highlands

Ryle

Ludlow

Holy Cross

Conner

St.Henry

 

Those last 4 I mentioned probably could go in any order, because there is really is no strong case for any of them for why one team should be over the other out of those 4...

Fair enough, but what games are you looking at? I know those teams you mentioned over Ludlow really haven't done much better against the top teams. I know scores you posted of Ludlow losing all the time ended up being one of the top 2 teams in the region, and I dont remember any of those teams beating those teams during those years.. Also alot of people just never notice or remember when Ludlow does play and beat a top school, because every year Ludlow does usually beat one or two top schools out of the few top schools they play. This year Ludlow 10 run ruled Highlands, yet not many people remember that, but they say when Newport beat Highland it was the biggest upset in the state. Yet Ludlow 10 run ruled them. In 2004 Ludlow went to Boone County and 10 run ruled them, and then 10 run ruled Holy Cross that same year when they had their ace on the mound who was a big lefty which I dont remember his name. In 2005 they beat Highlands and Holy Cross. In 2003 they beat Highlands, and Scott. In 2002 play in a tournament down state with bigger schools from other regions and finished runnerup in that tournament. In 2001 beat Beechwood to win the conference and also played down state in a tournament with Oldham County or it maybe it was South Oldham (it was one of the two) and with other bigger schools down there and also finished runnerup in that tournament as well.

 

So yeah I admit Ludlow doesn't play big schools all the time like other schools. However they do play some every year and usually do well against them, yet no one remembers that. Yeah Ludlow got smacked a few times as you mentioned but those were by teams that were 1 or 2 in the region, and none of the teams you mentioned was beating those teams either in those years. The fact is Ludlow's teams from 2001 to 2005 was one of the better teams in the region like it or not. I know people on here only seem to remember the present and the last two years teams haven't been as great, and benefited from a weak district this year. But there were some big schools that have also benefited who have some region appearances on their belt from playing in a weak district. Ludlow however in all but one of those regional appearances was able to do it in one of the toughest districts with CovCath and Holy Cross, and also pulled off a district championship in that span. So I think Ludlows case to be over some of the teams you mentioned is pretty darn good. Now the order you would put Ludlow in with Holy Cross, Conner etc. in the top 8 is debatable, but the fact is Ludlow during this time period has been one of the top teams in region since 2001...

Scott is actually in the 10th region.

 

Walton with five regional apperences for a small school seems pretty good. I also believe in those years they went pretty far in the all a also. Walton also seems to play alot of the 9th region competition year in and year out. So I would have to put them ahead of schools such as ludlow and even St. Henry.

Consider the schedule Scott plays. It's as tough a schedule as anyone plays up here. It's the only way to get better. You've got to consider the quality of the comp, just not wins and losses.

They have all won at least one Regional Tournament game.

 

Based solely on regional tournament appearances I would list the following 8 teams for the 9th region;

 

CovCath

Beechwood

Dixie

Boone

Ryle

St Henry

Holy Cross

Highlands

You are kidding right ?? They have played 2 teams outside the region or N.KY.Greenup Co. and Fostoria ,OH who was not very good .Have you looked at the schedules and places Ryle ,Cov Cath and Beechwood have played .

I'm not affiliated with Scott in any way. No, they did not play the schedule of the three schools you mentioned - all three of whom played brutal schedules - but from what I can see, Scott did indeed play as competitive schedule as any other team in NKY outside of those three. Heck, they played CC, HC, Beech, Highlands, Ryle (3x), Bishop (2x), George Rogers. Not exactly a creampuff schedule, IMO. :thumb:

Maybe , but certainly not going out of your way to play the top teams in the state .I do not consider playing teams from your area (HHS -obviously the best in this list ,Calvary .Silver Grove ,Newport ) as playing that tough of a schedule .

Ryle ,Cov Cath and Beechwood went out of the way to play O-Cath,Tates Creek Danville ,Appollo and others .These 3 travel to go find these teams .If you want to get better you are going to have to travel to find the top teams and ask to play them .
