futurecoach Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I was wondering who everyone else thought was the top baseball PROGRAMS since 2001 in NKY. I would have said since 2000 but my memory only goes to 2001 when I was a freshman in high school. And this is the teams that I say have to be the best baseball programs since 2001 going by how teams do in conference and making the region... CovCath Beechwood Boone County Dixie Ludlow Holy Cross Ryle Highlands
cshs81 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 CCH,BW,Ryle would be the only 3 to make the list for me. From 02 through this season: CCH 168-50 BW 159-50 Ryle 125-77 Highlands 62-70 Ludlow 57-56 HC 81-78 Dixie 85-76 Boone 96-82
futurecoach Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 CCH,BW,Ryle would be the only 3 to make the list for me. From 02 through this season: CCH 168-50 BW 159-50 Ryle 125-77 Highlands 62-70 Ludlow 57-56 HC 81-78 Dixie 85-76 Boone 96-82 If you go by wins then yes! But I figured since the region tournament has 8 teams, I would name 8 teams that have been the best baseball programs since 2001. I know Dixie has been in the region alot and also won the region in 2001. Boone County did in 2003. Ludlow has made the region 4 times in the last 7 years. And in two of the years they didn't make it was when they had definitely a team that was one of the best 8 teams in the region but had bad draws in district because it was blind draws in those years. In 2001 when they didn't make they had won the conference over a good beechwood team, but ended up drawing CovCath in the first round cause of blind draw, and CovCath was the regional runnerup that year. In 2003 drew HC in first round who ended up also being regional runnerup that year. So kind of like HC this year, they got stuck up against a real good team in first round of district. Now for Holy Cross they were regional runner up in 2003 and made region several times since 2003. Now Highlands was regional runnerup in 2002 and also has several regional appearance since 2001 as well. So that is why I think these 8 teams have been the best baseball programs in NKY since 2001. And one of the reasons I started this thread was to show people that Ludlow has been one of the best baseball programs in this decade, even though most people wouldn't realize that since it is a small school, and most small schools like that dont get any respect...

Using the number of appearances in the region tourney as a measuring stick does not give one an accurate picture. Lets say HC always is a top 5 team in NKY but never makes the region due to being with CCH and BW while Dixie and Ludlow make it every year from the 34th. You're telling me that tells us that Dixie and Ludlow have a better program?? If you said they have a better "draw" I'd agree. Ludlow's records: 2002 16-8 2003 3-11 2004 5-7 (is this possibly right?) 2005 12-14 2006 9-13 2007 12-13 Even if 2004 is incorrect, to try to include them as a "top program" is more than a stretch. "one of the best teams in this decade..."""???? Yikes. HC: 2002 10-15 2003 14-17 2004 4-13 2005 11-13 2006 21-9 2007 21-11 If anything, you put HC into the mix before Ludlow. Dixie 2002 15-14 2003 6-15 2004 21-7 2005 20-7 2006 13-13 2007 10-20 Again, like HC, you put Dixie in before Ludlow. However, IMO none of them are in the discussion.
cshs81 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Let me say that I'm being critical of certain programs as a program and not being critical against individuals. Regardless of what school you're at, you can only do what YOU can do. You need others and you need quantity of talent.
cshs81 Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 How about Brossart? 109-75 since 2002... Good call. They weren't on the original proposed list and I forgot about them. I'd add them to the "top programs" list.
striker Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Good call. They weren't on the original proposed list and I forgot about them. I'd add them to the "top programs" list. Obviously they're not there with CCH, BHS, and Ryle, but I think they are in front of all the others...
The Knight Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 CCH,BW,Ryle would be the only 3 to make the list for me. Remember the KHSAA does not have every game that is played on it scoreboard. Over the prior four years (2003-2006) Beechwood had a record of 136-24 which is probably the most wins in the state over that period.

NHS BIG DADDY Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 I would have thought Dixie would have been a little better then they were over that time period.
cooperstown Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Using the number of appearances in the region tourney as a measuring stick does not give one an accurate picture. "one of the best teams in this decade..."""???? Yikes. I don't mean for this to be a "pick on Ludlow" thread, so please know that's not my intent. It would appear that you (futurecoach) played for or are associated with Ludlow and are proud of them and that's terrific. You should be. But there is another reason you simply can't list them alongside the CC, Ryle, BW, Boone, Brossart of the world and that is quality of wins. I don't see that how many times they made the regionals as much of an indicator of strength. Newport made it with a 6-17 record this year with only one quality win (Highlands) and I don't think they would be consdiered a strong team this year. Wins and losses - and, more importantly, the quality of those wins, over the long haul is the best indicator of a program's strength. When you look back over Ludlow's record the past 5 years, almost every single one of their wins have come against Dayton, Newport, Villa, Holmes, Heritage, Calvary, Lloyd, Silver Grove, etc. These are not strong teams that they beat. I just don't see many quality wins. Certainly the 2004 win agaisnt CC was huge and they also beat Highlands this year. And there have been a few wins against Holy Cross in the past, though it was during HC's "down" years. But it's just hard to point out any consistent year-to-year quality wins against the top teams that would qualify ranking Ludlow as a top program in NKY.
75center Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 For the same reasons Highlands can't be listed among the top programs since 2001. This year may be their only winning season in that span. Someone closer to the program could probably answer that for sure.
shooter Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 I would have thought Dixie would have been a little better then they were over that time period. The records for Dixie are not correct. Not sure where they came from but if they came from the KHSAA website not all games played are recorded there. I know that in 2005 Dixie's actual record was 23-8 and their 2004 record was 25-7. Not sure about the other years.
