9th Region Draw

Featured Replies

If I understand right, CCH/BHS will be opposite brackets due to being in the same district. I understand what you are saying but unfortunately it is the luck of the draw since the region is not seeded. Can you imagine all the argueing and bickering that would go on at the mtg to seed the region? I would not want to be involved w/that.

Whoever said to be the best you have to beat the best, I agree! Whether it is in the first rnd or the finals. If you are the best it will come out that way.

Oh, I agree that seeding would prevent some real bickering. But blind draws aren't much better, are they?

The "have to beat the best to be the best" cliche just isn't as true in a tournament setting if the brackets are heavily skewed to one side at the onset. (Why else does the NCAA tourney do it the way they do and not just blind draw their brackets?) If some team has to fight their way through a couple of tough opponents and use up quality pitching in the process, it sure gives an advantage to a team that would get to "sleepwalk" through a very weak bracket.

Would seeding really be that impossible? Could they not use the newspaper rankings? A perfect solution? Probably not. But how would it be less fair than a blind draw?

I've hosted a number of select baseball tournaments. The standard format is to play a 3-game pool play that then allows you to rank the teams so that single elimination bracket play is most fair.

I agree, there is no perfect solution. If you go by newspaper rankings, how would that be fair. The newspaper never gets anything right! Like Newport beating HHS, do they deserve a lower seed than HHS due to their low ranking during the season, this could be argued.

Using the NCAA analogy, like comparing apples and oranges. At least the people doing the rankings have a clue to what is going on and there are way more teams to rank than just 8. I think the blind draw will stay intact for quit a while. Pool play would never be voted on by the KHSAA due to the length of the season is already way too long, according to most.

There is no fair way to seed the district ,IMO. There is no one that sees these teams play enough to judge them .Going by a record would not be fair .Look at who Beechwood has played this year .How many times can you play a state ranked team ,#2 3 times .

First game of Ninth Region

Second game of Ninth Region

2.

6.

Third game of Ninth Region

3. Dixie 10-20

7. Highlands 22-12

Fourth game of Ninth Region

4.

8.

Of course that means that Newport has to be in the upper bracket as well as Ludlow due to not being able to play their district opponent in the first two games.... I am assuming that the 3pm game will be the third game of the day. That also means that CovCath and Ryle can't be in the same bracket.....

Still looks like a Ryle/CCH final. Who knows!

CCH has a tough road and if they look ahead they will go down. THey will have to use a lot more pitching than Ryle to get to the finals.

My guess for the first round games....

Beechwood will beat Newport but will not pitch Elliott. They will save him for Tuesday's match-up against Ryle...

Ryle over Ludlow. Ludlow will pitch York, but Ryle will not pitch their #1 or #2 as they will want to save there #1 for Beechwood then #2 for the Championship game.

Highland over Dixie if, and only if Allen pitches for Highlands. Will the Highlands coaching staff try to hold Allen out to face the CovCath/Boone County winner?

CovCath over Boone County. CovCath will wait and see who pitches for Highlands in the Dixie game. Boone will pitch their Ace. I personally think it will be Niehaus or Nutini but not Bleser against Boone County....

Of course this is just my opinion.....

I think Bob throws Elliott for a couple of innings and hopes they score a few runs for who ever relieves him. Beechwood gets the win.

York throws for Ludlow although he lost 3-0 in a wood bat tourney that the Raiders did not play well thru the entire tourney. Ryle has 7 pitchers ready so I have no clue who they will match up with York. I think J C Collins threw a 2 or 3 hitter against them last time. Ryle gets the win.

I think Highlands can win with Rawlings on the mound, that way they have a stronger middle infield. Dixie will go with Nicholes. Highlands gets the win.

I think Cov Cath does throw Bleser, they gave up quite a few runs in the Districts, but they scored a ton, too. I think Josh is in the same situation as Elliott, keep them off the scoreboard for 2 or 3 innings and hopefully his offense gets him a comfortable lead. Boone has some good hitters, this one may be closer then you think. I think Cov Cath wins it though.

Second Round Match Up Predictions:

Ryle vrs. Beechwood

Cov Cath vrs. Highlands
