has to be the biggest in both sports when it comes to both football and basketball combined...I couldn't tell you the last time I was this hyped about a UK and UL basketball and FOOTBALL game both teams in BOTH sports are both top 25 teams next year...Looks Great for the state of Kentucky!!!

UK and U of L isnt the top in football, it is up there for basketball, but not football. In football you have USC-Notre Dame, Army-Navy,Ohio State-Michigan, all of these teams are always good, last year was Kentuckys best year since Tim Couch. They both should be top 25 teams next year in football, but USC and Notre Dame are always usualy in the top 10, and Ohio State and Michigan should be both top 5 next year.

Notre Dame hasn't been a consistant top 10 team for some time now.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone realizes that the rivalry in football isn't anywhere near tO$U-Michigan, but the thread is about the combined rivalry of football and basketball. Louisville-Kentucky in football is bigger than tO$U-Michigan in basketball.

Point well made.

Football rivalry is a little lop sided to be anything special right now.

I agree, the football rivalry is mostly within the state and not recognized nation wide. The UK/UL football rivalry is not even on the radar as far as games like OSU/Mich. - Fla./FSU - Bama/Auburn - UCLA/USC - ND/USC and so on are nation wide.

JMO and I know that this was a basketball/football thread but I just think that both teams in both sports would have to be nationally recognozed as a rivalry. Football right now is not, just in state.

JMO

It doesn't help that we will lose our national coverage either.

I agree with you here, makes no sense to me to take this game off the national stage, I for one really looked forward to watching this game prime time.

Agreed on this. :thumb:

I hope both Football Programs stay in the top 25. UK will be ranked somewhere in the top 30 Pre-season and UL will be top 10. Both of them stay there and this rivalry will be recognized nation wide. Maybe not at the level of OSU-UM, Florida-Florida St., but will be recognized.

With one of the parties wanting to move the game to a less-visible time slot, the UofL-UK football rivalry will continue to have far less national significance than the Harvard-Yale game, or even EKU-WKU for that matter.
