NKY Stadiums

Ryle has really nice complex but the stands are a wyas off. The field which used to be one of the best has gone backwards...I believe there was a thread on here last year, saying the field was settling and it was very uneven.

Ludlow is a unique place to watch a game.

Highlands...parking is horrific but you are right on the field.

Haven't been to Dixie's/Newport's new complex.

Holmes has a nice venue. The bermuda grass is a real nice surface and has held up well when sharing it with Holy Cross. Like all bermuda grass fields, it goes dormant and turns brown after the first frost. The concourse at Holmes games can be a real tight squeeze.

Are you kidding? Parking in Ft. Thomas to attend a game is NUTS. I agree if you must cross Dixie (Covcath highway, that was a good one!) highway, it's a challenge. Try driving up Kenton Lands road, there a a few business lots that are available if the parking is full on campus. At least you won't have to dodge cars running across DIXIE highway.

Like I've said, I've been to more than a few HHS games in the past decade or so and I've always get the same exact spot about 3 minutes from the gate. All the games I've gone to have been higher profile games when the crowd has been SRO.

2 years ago NCC didnt have a choice but to use a different field in the playoffs because them and Newport both had home field advantage unless of course NCC wanted to play on Saturdays.

I went to the NCC/Bellvue game and it was beyond packed, they needed more seats for that one.

If Lloyd would get a few small upgrades I think their stadium is one of the best.

I like when stadiums are just upgraded and not completely redone because it keeps all the good memories and the history.

Just went by Lloyds field and it is looking really good. Lloyd will have a new stadium in 5 years from what I have seen in the new proposal for the new school and facilities. I was told sports turf would be put in. Lloyd has a new weight lifting facility in the school and no longer in bottom of locker room and looks really nice. They are really working on the school and facilities at Lloyd and everyone will see progress as they hopefully will start the new school this summer. JD

I had no clue they were building a new school. Where are they building it?

This statement has to be thought of as true by so many people. I would hate it if someday they completely torn down the stadium at the D.

They are staying in the same place with some reconfiguration. I know for a fact the outdoor theatre will be no longer.

I figured it be at the same location, just wasn't sure where they would starting building (parking lot or outdoor theater or both).

Okay the first phase will be built in front of the school where the amphitheatre (sp) is. Then two more buildings where the school is now. There is a model and some pictures of what it will look like at the Erlanger Branch of the Kenton County Library. Once the school is complete they are to work on the sports complex and additional facilities. It will look really good when it is complete. JD

What's the word on NCC building a field on the hill? Heard some scuttlebutt on it last year. Seems like it would be a waste of funds being Newport's facility has been upgraded.

NewCath is going to redo everything. The stadium is only part of it.

Holmes gets field turf and they have an awsome facility. I agree, it is very UC like. I think field turf could give Holmes that extra little boost in the athletic program it needs to excite the athletic talent they have to really commit.

Holmes was supposed to get field turf a few years back when Mike Farley was the coach and they were going to split the cost with HC but the HC athletic boosters didn't want to pony up their side of the money.

I agree if Holmes were to get turf though, it would create a lot of excitement and get more talent out there. Kids love playing on the turf.

I got to watch a game in that stadium a couple years ago. The grass was kind-of dead, but the way the stadium sits down in the hole was very nice. They need visitor stands though. It could make the place really loud. Especially if the host the Rocks.

Back I think in the mid to late 80's, Holmes had visitor stands where the current "Holmes wall" is but tore them out when they re-did the track. Plus Not many schools bring a big fan base on the road to Holmes.

One thing's for sure, back in 2000-2001 when Englemon and James "Meechi" Jackson were there, Holmes games would be packed and Tom Ellis Stadium would be rocking.

The football stadium is towards the end of the developments and $$$ will always be a factor. I would guess that if Thomas More puts in turf and revamps their facility you will see Holy Cross, NCC, and Brossart invited to play games their games there.
