District-3-4- Western Hills

Does anybody know anything about Western Hills? I am surprised to see this. Anything on them JD Dog?

I think E-town is the team to beat.

Do you mean E-town is the team to beat in all of 3A or just their district? What have they done recently to inspire such optimism?

The team to beat in the Regional. Hey I am a "the glass is half full" kinda person! :jump:

Are they still a spread offense type of team?

The district 3-4 intrigues me a little because they all seem to be close in ability? Anyone have any insight?

I can't see Russell going as far as they have the past two years, too many losses in personnel. I look for Central or Tilhman to take it this year.

Each year about this time I start thinking that Russell has lost to many top players to compete the next year. The 2002 team in my opinion was the best team that Russell fielding in the past 10 years that I have been watching them. Ivan has a way to take average athletes, teach them to play to the best of their abilities and compete each year. Once again I will say that Russell will be good but winning the state championship takes a lot of things to go right. When Gross left the Russell backfield after the 2004 season a lot of people thought Russell would be just average. IMO the 2004 team was better than the 2005 team. The problem was that the Belfrys 2004team was better than Russell.

If Russell can get by Mason, Belfry, Breathitt, they might have a chance. I'm sure glad we don't have to play Mercer again. They are good.

6-10 is really a toss up. Breathitt has one of the most explosive offenses returning this year. They are gonna be a handful in the playoffs.

I think these teams will win their districts. Remember to win your districts now, you must win the 2nd. round playoff game.

1-5

Belfry, Louisville Central, Mason Co., Paducha Tilghman, Russell.

6-10

Breathitt Co, Elizabethtown, Fleming Co, Sheldon Clark, Somerset,

Breathitt and Somerset in my opinion will have good enough play from the Skilled position to take them a long way. The only problem i see for Breathitt is the offesnive line. Breathitt only lost 4 3 of which were offensive linemen. If Breathitt can fill the holes up front and give a very talented Quarterback some time to pick apart the defense(especially with all those weapons coming back) Breathitt should light up the scoreboard. Breathitt's defense returns all but 3 starters. 2 defensive linemen(one in which{Casey Allen} made the Courier Journal 1st team All-State Defense) and a great safety. With the coaching from 2 of the best in the state of kentucky in Holcomb/Chapman, the sky is the limit for Breathitt this up coming season. I look for Breathitt to be playing on the Carpet once again in 2007.

I can't see Russell going as far as they have the past two years, too many losses in personnel. I look for Central or Tilhman to take it this year.

Until someone in their class beats them, they are the top dog. As I said earlier, Russell's system and coaching philosophy allows young players to get alot of experience which prepares them to step in to positions vacated by graduation. Add in the fact that Coach Morris has had great success against spread offensive teams...well, all offensive schemes really...and the Devils will be going back to Belfry to see who goes to the Pizza Box. Barring significant injuries, this year's team will be right there at the end again...:thumb:

Not true...This is not last years 2a...There are different teams they'll be competing against... You can't blame a Tilghman, Central, Somerset, etc for not beating Russell, since they didn't have the chance too... It's wide open, imo and I could see Central, with there great athletes, taking it all, much like Mercer did in 2a last year...

No it's not last year's 2A, but aside from Somerset, the other teams you mention are on the opposite side of the state and wouldn't see Russell until the championship game anyway so they have no bearing on my assertion that the Devils will be back in Lousiville. As for Somerset coming up from 1A, do you really see the Briar Jumpers beating the two teams that have represented the eastern side of the state in 2A at the Pizza Box four consecutive years? I don't...

Nice to see some love for Mason County in this thread.

They will need to find someone for QB Richie Cox to throw to; and they will need to find a place kicker. Also need to beef up the OL and DL. The Mason County-Russell game should be a lot of fun!
