UofL led wire-to-wire in 2003, and survived a UK 3rd quarter rally to win 40-24.

 

Not a cakewalk, but a pretty solid win over a rival that had beaten them the year before.

 

I would add that Louisville led wire-to-wire in 2005 as well. Rich Brooks has never held the lead against the University of Louisville for any amount of time in his entire tenure. I think that if you want to use the past as an indicator of this game, that's a great place to start.

When UK makes any noise whatsoever in the SEC, you can brag about playing in the SEC.

Now they just have to prove it wasn't another small blip on the radar. They did improve last year, but it was also with a very favorable SEC schedule. This year, not so much. They will be in a dog fight to get to .500...

It would sort of be like Ole Miss trying to establish themselves as a basketball power in the SEC. Why go to UK to play football when you could go to Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, Florida or LSU? It's just hard for the program to get off the ground in a loaded conference. And IMO it never will. We've got football to entertain us between basketball seasons. So goes life in Lexington.
