April 28, 200719 yr I have noticed that in Kentucky alone, there have been 4-5 threats of possible school shootings in the past week or so. I can remember without even looking scares at Rockcastle County, Owsley County, and a middle school. Today, there was an alleged threat at Sheldon Clark High School in Eastern Kentucky. I can't remember the other one or two, but I know there was a few others. This is a very bad situation that just keeps getting worse. Makes me worry as my wife is a teacher!
April 28, 200719 yr I completely agree....They should make the penalty for making the threats a minimum of 10 years in prison regardless of whether or not there was any intent on actually carrying it out.

It seems like every case is a little different. There's not really a way that I can see to say "yeah that kid has the potential to kill a bunch of classmate..." Its a very strange phenomena.
April 30, 200719 yr The court system needs to make examples out of students that make these threats. After several of these students get about 5 -10 years in jail. This non sense will stop.

The sad thing that we learned from Virginia is that even if you identify someone as a potential killer there isnt much you can do about it. Though there were warning signs, no one could call his parents because it violated his right to privacy. No one could commit him because there was no obvious outward threat to himself or others. It takes a lot of evidence to lock someone up in a psyc ward because you are taking away his civil rights. Still, several teachers and classmates saw it coming. He skated right on the edge till it was too late. Very sad for those who tried to get him help and for those who died because the law was on his side. Geez, I remember when calling in a bomb scare to a school was the worst thing that a kid did.

The threat was first sent to many people over ICQ and the rumor spread like wildfire after that... They elected to continue school as normal that day, but like I said.. It was an excused absence for anyone who didn't want to risk it. Wasn't there a school shooting in Paducah around the same time as Columbine?

I agree. Throw the book at them, throw a few of them in prison/Juvenile detention for a while...and they might slow down a little. That still won't stop them completely, we have a lot of stupid people in this country.

You my friend are absolutely correct, but as you know a lot of parents in some parts of our Commonwealth are not even raising their own children. They are too busy getting high on drugs to raise their own kids. Kids are like a blank chalkboard.....you can write on them what you want...it's unfortunate what some of these kids have to see in their lives..
