When I was growing up there were enough old fashion spankings that I was not going to refuse. I had been taught when I was younger that when dad spoke refusal was not an issue. That foundation had been lain long before I was a teenager.

When I was younger and if I did something wrong, the school or the courts was the LAST one I was concerned about. It was my father.

 

You are absolutley correct about this! Also, I knew that is if I got in trouble and/or a "butt busting" at school that it was only the first one bc I was also in for one when I got home.

 

There are too many ............lets say "politicall correct" parents today, they "think" that they are doing right and being a good parent and they are doing the excat opposite in a lot of cases. Way too many of these bleeding heart liberal judges out there :irked: . Take dicipline out of the courts and the "how to" books and talk shows and put it back in the home!

 

When I was growing up my Dad gave me "time outs" ! If I had messed up, he took "time out" of his day to whip my butt!

I understand your point and wonder where that fine line is too.

 

As a teacher my hands are tied at times. I have had a student make a claim that I thought was 100% false. Didn't believe a word of it. STILL, I don't turn it in and I lose my job. Is my ability to provide for my child worth not telling even though I believe it is false?

 

I think the belt was the comment that made the police have to handle as they did.

 

The most effective punishment my dad ever did with me did not include a spanking. I was five minutes late for curfew, got in at 12:05. Of course, he was up and sent me to bed. Thought I had gotten by with it. The rest of the week including school mornings, I was up when his alarm went off for him to get ready for work, at 4:00 AM doing chores including digging ditches for a drainage system we were putting in. I would work until he left at 6:00 AM and then I would begin to get ready for school.

 

I was NEVER late for my curfew again.

I don't think that it is as fine of a line as you think coach. There is a huge difference between sexual abuse, bodily bruising, poor nutrition and grooming, and some good old fashioned whelps and bruises on your butt. My bible is very clear. It says "whosoever spareth the rod HATES the child." I don't think there is any question about the use of corporal punishment. It is another example of our society veering away from the good book that it is disapeering from the norm today.

The only thing I remember when I was in school was kids would sometimes bring pocketknifes to school. And even then you might get it took away from you by a teacher or the principal. Now they're bringin' guns to school. I quess their to afraid to take a butt whoppin' like I use to give and take back in the day, but I would live to fight another day. And we didn't have to post it on the internet either.

:thumb: :thumb: Great post!! We would see a lot more respect if we had ever heard of that crazy "time out" idea or any of the so called A.D.D. drugs that the physicians and drug companies are getting even more rich from.

 

Trust me, if I got in trouble at school and my parents found out or if I crossed the line that you don't cross with rules at home I did not need any prescription drug to get my attention! I was made well aware of it and knew that it was wrong and listened the next time.

^That's the way it should be today, now they've tied the hands of principles and teachers on behavior problems, and now look what's happening, didn't that back in my day.
