April 27, 200719 yr Author But what is reasoning in such a rule? I'd guess its to prevent schools from basically using academic schollys as athletic ones. It could be abused so that athletes were getting academic schollys over non-athletes who are more qualified.
April 27, 200719 yr I've heard that at many schools, the walk ons are basically paid for as well due to funding in the athletic dept. and athletic dept. scholarships. Don't know for sure of any of these, but that is something that has been passed around.
April 27, 200719 yr That would be during his senior year. Maybe. Wow I dont know about that! I think that 10 points 5 rebounds a game sounds like something that probably would be around his numbers. Which is not numbers as great as people seem to think he would do in college. However to say he would be lucky to even have that average in his senior season is very out there....
April 27, 200719 yr After thinking about it, do we really want Lucas and Patterson? I mean will they be 1 and done if they have good years, and with Sanchez and Leigon, they might stay a couple if not all 4 years. It would better better for UK to go after the people that will help now and will stay for later too! That type of thinking got the former coach in big trouble and eventually ran out of town.
April 27, 200719 yr It's my understanding that Gillispie is meeting with Sanchez today. I've heard Sanchez today, Lucas tomorrow, and possibly PPat once more....

April 27, 200719 yr That type of thinking got the former coach in big trouble and eventually ran out of town. Let's face it the best players are going to leave earlier than the "others" but don't we want the BEST!!?
May 2, 200719 yr Sanchez to visit UK weekend after Derby LUCAS TO NARROW LIST BEFORE END OF WEEK By Jerry Tipton Forward prospect Mike Sanchez plans to visit Kentucky the weekend of May 11-13, the player's summer coach said yesterday. Meanwhile, the NCAA calendar and the father of another prospect suggested that one of UK's most closely watched recruiting sagas might be approaching a conclusion. John Lucas, the father of point guard prospect Jai Lucas, said his son hopes to narrow his college choices to "two or three" schools by the end of the week. A choice could be made on Derby weekend. "We're going to get this thing wrapped up," John Lucas said. "I'm tired of this." The NCAA spring signing period ends on May 16. Neither Lucas nor Patrick Patterson has indicated that he might exercise the option of not signing and, instead only committing to a school sometime before the start of the fall semester. Sanchez, a 6-foot-8 player from Springdale, Ark., plans to visit Wake Forest on Derby weekend, AAU Coach Bill Ingram said. Sanchez is also considering Arkansas and Louisiana State, or attending a prep school to make up for the high school season he was hobbled by a knee injury. He visited nearby Arkansas earlier in the recruiting process. No doubt, anxious UK fans are getting fatigued waiting for Lucas and Patterson to make their choices. Lucas, a 5-foot-10 point guard from the Houston area, has been considering Kentucky, Florida, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Maryland. He and Patterson, each a McDonald's All-American, have spoke of going to the same college. The players share two choices: Kentucky and Florida. Patterson, a 6-8 power forward from Huntington, W.Va., had coaches Mike Krzyzewski of Duke and Billy Donovan of Florida in his home last week. UK Coach Billy Gillispie is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the Huntington High team banquet later this month. Even Jai's father is getting tired of all this......
