"Coming back for my senior year will give me the opportunity to work on my game so I can become a better player. There are also a lot of things that we can accomplish here as a team," Lofton said in a statement. Lofton said Tuesday he wasn't projected high enough in the upcoming NBA draft to warrant leaving school early.

April 25, 200719 yr As I've said before and will likely say again... I've heard the argument that the pros will always be there, so go ahead and get your education... But that's not always the case... If you have a case at guaranteed millions (and I'm not sure that Lofton does at this time, just saying...) go ahead and take it... An injury won't keep you from going BACK to college... Take the money while you can get it.

I agree in this situation... But I always hear the "get your diploma so you have something to fall back on" thing thrown around, and if I were in that spot, I would go... You can go back to college in 20 years and get your diploma if you want...

And that last part is what will make Lofton look even better in scouts eyes. I'm hoping he has a terrific senior season in Knoxville; only two or three losses mixed in!

April 25, 200719 yr Smart decision, set a precedent for the "fence" players, meaning players who may or may not get the guaranteed contract to stay in school and work on your game, not to mention the education. I know there is only ONE NBA, but there are plenty of places to play semi-pro ball and make money if the NBA didn't work out. Have a degree and something to go to if pro ball doesn't work out.
