Scott Bolin (Garrard County) Resigns

Featured Replies

Garrard County High School head coach Scott Bolin resigned today to take an assistant coaching position at Centre College. Bolin implied that he will continue to teach at Garrard while coaching at Centre. For a young guy with limited head coaching experience, this is an outstanding jump for Coach Bolin. Best of luck to him!

As for the replacement, I have no idea. Should be interesting.

Going from a high school head coaching job in Kentucky to an assistant as a Division 3 college is not a jump at all.

Maybe its his intention to start at Centre and work up the food chain in college basketball. Everyone has to start somewhere.

By the way, how many Division III assistant coaches are in Kentucky? Six? I think its a good step for Coach Bolin.

Going from Scott Co. to a D3 assistant may not be a move up, but from lowly Garrard Co. to a D3 assistant at a nationally known college is a move up. Congrats.

Lowly?! Ouch! I understand your point completely, however.

Perhaps not in pay but some very good talent, in D3 and coaches who have aspirations of College, must consider options available.

I applaud any coach, who pursues his dream of collegiate coaching.

Any takers for this job?

Who are the leading candidates?

I have no knowledge of the situation currently (its still early), but I would expect Greg Edwards' name to come up. Edwards is the former head man at Harrodsburg and Mercer County and is currently an assistant at Boyle County. Any time a job opens in this area, his name is mentioned.

How bad do you think Centre would beat Garrard Co?

I am sure that Centre college could beat Garrad Co. I am not sure Centre could have beaten Scott Co, Ballard, Holmes, or Warren Central this year. This is not a knock on Centre. Heck Centre is a beautiful place and Danville is one of my favorite towns. I know that the high school head jobs pay more than the D3 and NAIA2 head jobs MOST of the time. I remember asking a very successful head coach about applying for an NAIA2 job once. He said he would have to take about a 50% cut in pay going from the HS job to the NAIA2 job.

Best wishes to Coach Bolin. I got the chance to meet him and see his team a few years ago. Top notch person and great coach.

That's just crazy. College teams, with the extra maturity and strength of the players, would not lose to HS teams unless that HS team has some game-breaker NBA-types.

Schue, you can call me crazy all you want but look at this roster.

Now look at this roster.

Now, tell me that the high school team couldn't compete with the NCAA D3 team.

I have known of a few kids that started at NCAA D3 and NCAA D2 schools that never started in high school. I think one year in the 80s Union College had 3 starters that never started a game for their high school teams, and they hadn't played high school at powerhouse programs.
