Since There Was Such An Outcry...

For the Rutger's women, where is the outcry for the Duke lacrosse players? After all, they were wronged far worse, IMO.

Maybe there is a double standard when it comes to Gender, in reverse form as has been shown in the past??

There IS an outcry as far as I can tell. Mike Nifong is being threatened with lawsuits and is being killed by his peers.

Am I missing something?

Was the point of the Imus issue to get Imus fired, or the damage his careless words did to innocent victims?

Imus being fired is the least important aspect of his case.

Same in the Duke scandal. What happens to Nifong is secondary to the damage that has been done to the players wrongfully accused.

They were stupid to hire a stripper, but they are apparently not rapists.

Apparently, white males from financially stable families do not deserve the same considerations or have the same civil rights the Rutger's girls are receiving.

One of players made a good point in the press conference. If they can drag those boys through what they did and do to them what they did and yet they have the finances to fight it, imagine what happens to those that don't have the finances to fight such things.

This will be litigated and handled, in the courts. I don't see a comparison, in relation to detail. The only comparison, I could draw would be wrong decisions by Nifong and Imus....

One is wrongfully accused by a woman and have been vindicated, the other is making comments about a group of women.

I agree.

There is no comparison to who was wronged and harmed more. However, they will get their day.

I'd expect Nifong to suffer when all is said and done.

One of the universal truths I've learned in my short life is that we do ultimately reap what we sow.

Has Opra had them on her show like she did the Rutgers girls? Is Al Sharpton or Double J demanding the firing of the college staff that wrongfully admonished them? Are the same two marching anywhere for their rights? Does anyone really care about how they have been hurt? Is falsely being called a rapist and having so many people demanding they be jailed really that much less than be called a nappy headed hoe? Is having to deal with this injustice for a YEAR nothing compared to the few days that these women had to "suffer" for being called such appalling names compared to rapist? Have you heard any outcry from Hollywood about how they were treated for something they didn't do? Are they going to get their season back that they lost for something they didn't do? I’m sure I think of many others, but yeah, I’d say you missed something.

Where is the Lacrosse players apology from their accusers? And, BTW, there were a lot of them.

None of the above matters. There is no legal process these girls can go through. However, the boys on the other hand have that process and , most likely, will pursue that option. That's my poiint. They don't need anyone to stand up for them. They've got the justice system on their side as far as a way to fight back. The girls do not so people feel the need to stand up for them.

Imus got fired. Nifong will suffer professionally as well. What am I missing?

What would that get them? While people will forget about these girls in a month, these boys will have this follow them forever. A hollow apology would be a waste of time. There really is nothing these boys can do to repair their images. That's a shame.

I'm guessing that you've never been accused of a sexual crime. You're scarred from day 1, whether you're guilty or not. And just because your case gets dismissed, it doesn't change the trauma or your legal bills that occured in the months before. Most people would have forgotten about the Rutgers comments, had they even been aware of them to start with, in a short period of time. The Duke lacross team will have this hang over their heads for the rest of their lives.

I would assume the Rutgers players could sue for defamation of character or slander, couldn't they?

Why aren't Sharpton and Jackson marching for their rights, as they were for the accusers?
