Racism is alive and well in America..........but is being reversed

Th Duke guys and the fact that black people are complaining because they are not the majority in baseball are 2 strong cases to prove that............

I see your point and I agree. I really believe that racisms strength in this country today feeds off of guys like Sharpton and J. Jackson and the whole Hip-Hop society. You can't call a black girl a "Nappy Headed Ho" unless you're black. If a black person says it, it's funny. If a white person says it, their life as they know it must end. Not only is racism reversed, it's the most overbearing type of double standard there is.

The way Jackson, Sharpton, the media and the team has reacted to the words of Imus has set the "Dream" of King back many years. Why can't they see that?

I'm not sure of that last sentence 81. My guess is that the producers of a lot of news shows have their own "view" of what is news and what we want.

.

My point is this. There are so many news outlets fighting for viewers that they have to "report" on what will attract viewers. Thus, its you and I that are driving this story. If the collective "you and I" wanted to hear about Iraq or the economy, THAT would be the #1 story.

Maybe a little off topic , but just out of curiousity I'm going to guess that the % of whites has dropped also and that the % of hispanic players has risen greatly.

Its pretty much flip-flopped.

In the 70's and 80's it was about 30% Black and 10% Latin, now it is 17% Black and Latin players make up 25 percent of the major-league and 42 percent of minor league rosters.

I totally agree.

Exactly. The fact that the US seizes upon every scandal and otherwise sensationalistic story is a perfect example of this in action.

Unless you can really tell me with a straight face that the whole Lacy Peterson thing was newsworthy enough to warrant what amounted to about a solid three months of daily "reporting."

For a more recent example, see Smith, A.N.

It seems that the newsmedia has become a little more aware of how much they were discriminating against nonminorities in their stories that involved crimes against children and other such travesties. A little blond haired white girl disappears and its the top story. A little African American boy disappears and it might see some air time.
