Log Mountain Boy Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 The LHL had an article this morning about coach of the year. There were 38 different coaches recieving votes this season. Who does everyone think it should be? Here are some coaches I think did an impressive job this season: Scott Humphrey Billy Hicks Scott Renner Cov. Holmes coach June Buchanan's coach Tim Riley Steve Wright JD Strange Tony Peitrowski
crimedoc Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Sometimes it is just safe to go with the winner. Mine is with Hicks.
DoggyDawg Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Possible NKY canidates could be Henley, Code, and Carr.
Southern Gentleman Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Bottom line is Kentucky has the best High School Coaches in America! I think there are 276 Varisty programs in KY( give or take a few) and I think the majority are well coached, unlike other states. We may not have the best athletes in America but we do have great teams. Just look at KY teams vs out of state teams at Christmas. Most of the out of state teams have already played 10-12 games and they get beat, look at Scott Co - Huntington...look at our single A schools- top to bottom KY has great coaches.
rojas4 Posted April 13, 2007 Posted April 13, 2007 Where does one find out who received votes? In Sunday's Lexington Herald

After watching high school basketball in Florida this year and with all the talent I have seen in its a shame to see the coaching is a complete joke. Not all the schools but some of the teams that are loaded with so much talent and they don't know how to use thier players.

Log Mountain Boy Posted April 18, 2007 Author Posted April 18, 2007 Mike Code--Brossart and Brad Carr-Covington Scott did a much better job with less talent (especially if you believe the Holmes faithful) in NKY!! Well I would agree with CovCath, because I saw them play a couple times and they were very well coached. But Covington Holmes accomplished a lot and I think their coach did a good job getting his team to weather the storm they had and get to as far as they did.
The Breeze Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 IMO, hands down Billy Hicks could be coach of the year every year, he always gets alot out of his team.
PRESSROW Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 Mike Code--Brossart and Brad Carr-Covington Scott did a much better job with less talent (especially if you believe the Holmes faithful) in NKY!! Mike Code had 8 seniors to work with and that is a luxury in high school basketball especially when most all 8 contributed in one way or the other. Not saying its easy to when any games especially championships, but I am sure most would agree that having 8 seniors on the team has to be a major factor. Those guys should get most of the credit for any award that Coach Code received or receives. I know Coach Code would want it that way and that group including the coaching staff had a great year.

Eight seniors is indeed a luxury, especially at a small school; but Coach Code got the job done with these kids, turning several with little varsity experience into starters and solid contributors!! BTW--That was the original purpose of this thread; to get a little recognition for kids like Brossart's Kyle Kramer, Matt Lloyd and Bryan Niemeyer!!
