April 11, 200719 yr I'm just going to say this. Pitino certainly has more admiration for the University of Kentucky than Tubby does. Tubby virtually built his name at Kentucky and more than likely will not accomplish anything close to what he did why he had the tools in the cabinet as he did here at UK. Pitino has reached another Final Four since his departure. Tubby will never sniff another Final Four, and like said, much of his success is credited to being the frontman at Kentucky. He should be grateful for the years he had here, instead he almost takes it for granted. So pretty much no matter what the discussion is, Pitino certainly has more admiration for the University of Kentucky than Orlando Tubby Smith ever will have.
April 11, 200719 yr Wow I knew once I seen this thread we would have another nice little Tubby argument going both ways.... Now do I feel that he should and will be put in the rafters someday, yes I do. However I dont think it will be for a LONG TIME, when the hate of Tubby by some people cool down...The reasons I believe he should be is because he won us a title, continued the dominance of the SEC for us in 8 out of the 10 years here. He got us are first undefeated SEC season, and made the tournament every year, and NEVER lost in the 1st round in the tournament. A couple of #1 overall seeds in the tournament, and few elite 8 appearneces that got us very close to making the final four. Not to mention the most important thing is the way he handled himself when he was here as the coach of UK. He did everything with class and THE RIGHT WAY, we knew that no matter how much people might disagree with him on some things, that everybody would agree on that he was a great representive for our school during his time here. Also he also stepped aside for the good of the program, when he knew that no matter what happened, he would not wanted. So it would be better for him and the team to get a fresh start. Some of you say he shouldn't be because he turned his back, but IMO he did it to also help out the program. I mean if he was just going to run, and not care abour the program he would have put down the program, because he has many chances to do that with questions from reporters, but he never has and never will. So yes Tubby should be in the rafters one day, but it just wont be for a long time, and he is probably out of coaching...

He would be greatly overshadowed by Gillispie. If, however, Gillispie continues a performance closely mirroring Tubby's without a championship, then it'll be a lot easier to make a case for Tubby. As of now, I think he's a no based on recent performances. In 10 years, we may all look back and think differently. It's just too hard to say less than a month after his departure.
