April 11, 200719 yr Did he really do anything good for the program besides win a title? Did he keep the program at its very prestigeous(sp?) and highly respected level? Many would say the program lost some prestige while under Tubby. Is that what you want to think when you look up in the rafters? Do you want to look up and say "Well he won a title but other than that he didn't really do anything?"

Tubby dominated the SEC for awhile, went undefeated in a major conference for crying out loud, that is pretty absurd. Averaged 26 wins a season... that is a lot. Went into the tournament with the number one overall seed a couple times.

April 11, 200719 yr Author Did he really do anything good for the program besides win a title? Did he keep the program at its very prestigeous(sp?) and highly respected level? Many would say the program lost some prestige while under Tubby. Is that what you want to think when you look up in the rafters? Do you want to look up and say "Well he won a title but other than that he didn't really do anything?" Yes, he won a national championship. For that alone he deserves it. But if you don't think he deserves it on that alone, he won 5 SEC titles, 5 SEC tournament titles, went undefeated in the conference and conference tournament, won over 250 games...add that to his community service, millions of dollars raised for charities, puts him WAY over the top. He DESERVES it.
April 11, 200719 yr No! Anyone who would leave his team to coach another school at a much lower level, and leave it in the shape it is in, does not need to be imortalized or even put in the same category as Kentucky's greatest. If he would have stayed and honored his commitment, then maybe you have an argument, regardless of the past two seasons. However, when you jump ship on your own, basically showing your heart is not at UK, then there is no reason why you should be payed back for it. The Rupp Arena rafters are filled with names of hearts who have and still bleed blue, and Tubby is certainly not one of those. Enough said.
April 11, 200719 yr You know, he did miss out on Lofton, so I don't think he deserves it after all...
April 11, 200719 yr Besides 1998 did he ever accomplish anything with those number one seeds? Sure its not all about winning nat'l championships...okay in some peoples eyes it is. Sure, SEC Championships are nice and a great accomplishment especially to go undefeated but it dont do much good if you lose in the second round of the tourney. Yes, I know that he was a very charitable man and that is good but that don't help UK win.
April 11, 200719 yr And how many did Rick win Well many people, honestly now, claim he won 3....Obviously the 96' title, they give him credit for the 98' title because we all know that team was so talented, and they even claim that he technically won the 97' title because we all know that if Allen Edwards, or Derek Anderson play they easily win that one.... No lie, I've actually had to listen to this arguement from a sober, semi-intelligent human being....Really makes you wonder, don't it?

Maybe at the time Tubby did the best thing for the UK program by deciding to leave.
