I found this when looking for info on Roger Goodell.

"In November 2006, Goodell announced plans to expand the NFL beyond 32 teams within the next decade. As it is planned, these new teams will be the first to be placed outside of the United States. Toronto, Ontario, Canada is the leading candidate for a future franchise, followed by Mexico City, Mexico."

I am not sure what I think about this?

I think the NFL should keep all teams in the US. The Canadian baseball teams were not as productive as the teams in the US.

I do like the NFL having other leagues in other countries, such as NFL Europe. I think this has helped players gain experience as well as gained some exposure for the league. But, you can tell that attendance at NFL Europe games does not compare to attendance at NFL games in the US.

On the other side of the coin Japan loves the NFL. They have wanted a NFL Japan for several years. I believe the NFL has agreed to try a league in Japan. And the NFL games played in Mexico have had great success, I am not sure how a team would do in Mexico.

Again, I think the NFL teams should remain in the US, but gaining exposure through satellite leagues can be good.

I put it's a good idea with a disclaimer, NFL Europe has been invaluable to quite a few players. BUT what the NFL is doing next year taking two teams and doing a REGULAR SEASON game is unfair to the fans who hold season tickets. There are only 8 home games to begin with and you are taking that away. They are giving both teams a bye week to recover from travel, but it shouldn't be regular season.

Having seperate leagues like NFL Europe, NFL Japan is fine. I'm not sure how a team in Mexico or Canada would do. Travel wouldn't be that bad, but I don't know how good or bad the fan support would be.

I don't think it'd be a very good idea. I have a buddy, Belton Johnson who formally player for the Bengals and now plays in the Canadien league and he said it is like night and day when comparing the attendance up there to the attendance and support of games down here.

Only major sport this really works for is the NHL, and that is mainly due to hockey being Canada's national passtime. NBA don't work, already lost one of its two teams, and baseball wen't down the same path after the Expos "ex'd" Montreal. Seems like Toronto is the only place than can keep fans in the seats, and revune/interest going for them. Still I wouldn't trust putting an NFL team up there, or in Mexico. The way I look at it, Canada has their own league and own championship, and Mexico has its own brand of futbol and its way different than the NFL. They don't call it "American Football" for nothing, and I think America is soley where the NFL belongs.
