Gillispie gets verbal from class of 2009

Featured Replies

According to a published report Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie has picked up a verbal commitment from a sophomore standout in Texas.

Although there are no sources cited or direct quotes, the report states that McKinney High School point guard GJ Vilarino has become the first player to commit to Gillispie.

Vilarino (6-0, 150) averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 assists per game as a sophomore at McKinney. He was recently named to the adidas Nation team honoring 15 of the top players in the Class of 2009.

Pretty impressive!!! That was one of the big issues people had with Tubby, getting in with Kids early!

:thumb: and when Tubby did do this and talk to kids for the future they still blasted him for it.

I love it! If he works this hard during the season, they'll be a LOT of happy Cats fans.

Are you sure...some will find something to be upset about...

I didn't say they'd ALL be happy. I'm fairly sure he could go undefeated, win a title, and SOMEONE would mumble something about Pitino doing it better, or it being done with Tubby's players.

Vilarino Commits to Cats

Lexington, Ky- Billy Gillispie has received his first commitment as head coach of the University of Kentucky.

Coach Gillispie wasted no time using his Texas connections as he received his first commitment out of the Longhorn State less than a week after taking his new job. GJ Vilarino became Gillispie’s first recruit at Kentucky when he committed to the Wildcats earlier today. Vilarino, a 6’0 point guard from McKinney (TX), is one of the top sophomore point guards in the country.

We have also received word that Gillispie is in great shape to land top junior Willie Warren, and top-5 freshman KC Miller told us yesterday that Billy Gillispie is his favorite coach. Both Warren and Miller play AAU ball for Team Texas.

Sources tell us that DeAndre Jordan, who committed to Texas A&M, will likely try to get out of his National Letter-of-Intent and follow Gillispie to Kentucky.

This is the most interesting part.

No doubt. That would be very interesting, if true.

Not only interesting, that would be a great thing for next year's team. I really hope that is able to happen. Looks like Coach G didn't lie when he said one of favorite things to do was recruit. I think right now he is saying all the right things and doing the right things to smooth over Billy D not coming to KY.

I love this guy. Watch out in a few years we can win a NC.

This makes me think "Adam Williams".
