Pelle Named NKY Player Of The Year...

Featured Replies

They are both great players and great kids. They both experienced individual success. My guess is Pelle would give this award to Austin for two trips to Rupp Arena, and Austin wouldn't take that deal. This was a very special year in NKY basketball, Holmes wins the ninth and goes to the state Final 4. Brossart wins the ALL A, and them and Scott both nearly knock off two big boys in 10th region, and there was the story of the smallest school in the state winning twenty games, thanks in large part to there star that doesn't come around very often. Lets not ruin it by aruging over this, because it was a lot of fun to watch the basketball this year and in paticular both these young men. Be happy for both kids, they are friends on there AAU team and more even more Austin is happy for Pelle, and that is coming from Austin himself. Congrats to Corey Pelle and good luck at Westl Liberty State, NKU messed up by not signing you.

I would like to see what Hill could do against Brossart's D. Corey has avg 24 ppg in the 6 times they have played Brossart in the past 2 years.

I keep hearing how well he played against Brossart. I don't hear many other good teams he played against. Ludlow,Deming,St. Pat, Bracken C'mon I would put up 30 against those teams and I just had knee surgery

It does not matter he has to play the schedule they give him. And like somebody said before Pelle could of had 40 a night if he wanted. Against those teams he could of put up 60, but he would not do that he is unselfish and makes everbody around him better. Avereged 26 against brossart who I believe finished with the thrid best defense in the state. But my point is the schedule issue should not even be considered, the player has no control over that.

Hill had 20 every game in the state tournament, and had to play defense against the likes of Matt Walls, Bud Mackey, Stephon Perry, Jordan Hammonds, and some fo teh best players in NKY. Jocaobs, Bovard, etc.

Whilke Corey may have put up better numbers, Corey didn't have to play defense against the better players around the state and didn't have those guys guarding him.

Plain and simple...both players are outstanding athletes and players. Both players were keyed on in every game they played. Austin was just keyed on by better players which is why IMO he is the POY. Also think about all the adversity Austin had to overcome this year. You don't think he had to make EVERYONE around him better when Duran was out and when the players got suspended? The JV guys who stepped in for Duran and the suspended players were all made better because of Austin.

But this will be my last post on the subject regarding Austin. Congrats to Pelle, and enjoy it. Good luck at WLS.

The problem is, you HAVE to take it's schedule into consideration, because a big part of the argument for Pelle is based on his stats, and a big part of his stats is based on his competition, like it or not.

I think if Hill played the same competition, he would've dropped 50 a game; maybe this is because he's more selfish than Pelle, maybe Pelle could've just as easily, we'll never know. That's just my opinion.

IMO Hill was the best player in NKY, but it's not much of an insult to be beat out by a player as good as Pelle. You can make an argument either way.

Congrats to Corey Pelle of SG for winning this award ! I wish everyone would just stop comparing Hill to Pelle as I am sure they would wish the same. Hill is a fantastic player who helped his team accomplish a great run to the final four. I didnt get to see Pelle so I cannot comment but from what I read on here and in the papers, he is a phenomenal basketball player who was extremely valuable to his team. Hill was the same, dont get too caught up in this award from the Enquirer. Austin did win overall 9th region player of the year across the state I believe. I was at the state tournament and his mother accepted that award. correct me if I am wrong.

Correct. Austin was 9th region POY for the second year in a row this year. He won it as a junior too.

Jeff Vories of Highlands won last year. I witnessed him accepting the award at last year's state tourney.

Did him and Romes from B-wood share the title last year?

My mistake...got it a little mixed up because Vories was D2 POY and Austin was D1 POY.
