Why you should only want Ford or Pelphrey

#1-Yeah, he got runner-up, let's see him do it with a lesser talented team which he will receive next year whether he is in KY or OH

#2-UK had a killer class coming in and 2 will be seniors on next year's team. Doesn't matter how good they are in high school, can they play in college. None of Florida's "Fab Five" were heralded high school all-americans.

#3-Pelphrey and Ford will, when the opportunity arrives. Should they coach a mid major for 5-10 years like Thad before they get a chance? Billy coached at Marshall for all of what 3 years?

And yes, I am saying Ford or Pelphrey could have done the same things Calipari and Gillespie did. I am not impressed by either. At all. Conference USA? Come on. Big Ten was proven to be overrated(OSU was the ONLY good team) and Tubby will probably get coach of the year in that conference next year. I'd have been more impressed by Gillespie if there would have been a Big 12 representative in the Final Four. Their best team couldn't beat a Pac-10 team and Gillespie lost to Calipari in a tournament game that was play in his home state. I could imagine the Big Blue nation grieving all the way back from a second round game in Indy, or nashville after losing once again in the 2nd round because Gillespie can't win in front of essentially a home crowd. Give Ford or Pelphrey the resources the other two have and you'd see the same results. Both have been successful wherever they have been and they have the exact same blueprint that made Slick Rick and Billy D.

Ya know what now I understand you're reasoning for Pelphrey or Ford, it's because, as you stated, you're NOT a UK fan!

So you are saying that Pelphrey or Ford is equal to Gillespie or Calipari?

Ford's Team did go into Louisville this year, and came out with a W against RP and his boys.

Not sure he's the answer right now...but he does get the MOST out of his Team.

I am not a UK fan(I prefer Duke's blue and white), but seeing how I live in KY, I can't help but know what is going on in UK program. There would be no better fit,IMO, than Ford or Pelphrey.

Rick Barnes would be horrible at UK and would be ran out of town faster than Tubby was. He had Kevin Durant who is ultimately going to win every player of the year award there is and Texas still got beat in the 2nd round. Tubby did that without the best player in college basketball. I can't imagine UK faithful would stand for not making the sweet 16 when you have the best player in the country.

John Calipari might be a quick fix, but he has never coached in a real conference, nor has he beaten any real teams. Don't know how he'd hold up playing against the big boys every game.

Rick Pitino is actually probably the best choice, but will Uk ask him, and will he come back? he says he wasn't interested, but I have a hard time believing that if UK calls he won't be intrigued. If he had the intestinal fortitude to coach UofL, he'd have the same fortitude to come back if asked.

Ford or Pelphrey would be the ones considered. They would be ring the passion UK fans so desperately need to feel alive again. I almost feel sorry for you guys. No coach besides these two, Pitino included, would be universally loved and both would be guaranteed to stay as long as they possibly could. These next 2-3 years, unless you get Pitino or Calipari will be a wash. might as well bring them in and let them get themselves situated and their systems set in place. Call them the learning years until they completely get their recruits on the team and all things Tubby are gone. People say they aren't proven, but honestly, there isn't a single candidate mentioned who is more proven. You're talking about guys at "big name" schools who haven't gotten in done year in and year out. They have all taken their lumps, but a patient administration makes a huge difference. Ask Billy D. It took him 4-5 years to get Florida where it is now, and regardless of the next coach, it could take that long to get UK where it used to be. For that reason alone, it makes sense to get Ford or Pelphrey because if UK passes on them now, in 4-5 years, they may be somewhere else at a "big name" school that believed they were ready and hired them. I bet if Billy D had come to UK, that Peplhrey would have gotten a long look at the Florida job and Ford beat UofL at UofL this year. Pass on either on those guys and now and you face the chance of missing them when everyone says they are "ready". To me that doesn't make sense. Swallow your pride, forget the next 2-3 years, and rebuild from within with those who actually understand what it means to have UK across your chest.

This would never happen at Duke.:walk:

I was about to read your post when I saw you "preferred Duke's blue and white" then I quit reading. Nothing personal but I'm not going to listen to any advice about UK from a Duke fan.:D :D You'd probably try to sabetage us!!

So did Tubby's.

I think Billy G. is the best choice.

Me too.

If not him I actually like Pelphrey. No way on Ford.

Wouldn't have happened if Louisville had played them later in the season once they were clicking!

purplepride92 does make good points about how kentucky fans would empathize for Coach Ford or Pelphrey. Kentucky fans do not want to complacent, they either want to be the heavy favorites that win 96'97'98'or underdogs like in the early 90's. Even though he is a dUKe fan he has valid points.

Doesn't Matta and his staff get credit for recruiting that talented team? After all, that's part of coaching at the Division I level.

Bottom line ... Matta has won everywhere he's been and he just took a team that relied heavily on some freshmen to the national championship game. What isn't there to like or respect about that?

Pelphrey and Ford have done good jobs at the places they've been ... are other big-time knocking down their doors to hire them?

There aren't any big name schools that need coaches except for UK. Kansas State is open now though.

Thad and his staff get credit for this year. 1 year out of his whole coaching career he does good and now he's qualified enough for UK?

Yeah, I love Duke, but I'll never get to see our two great programs play each other like we did in 92, 98, 01 and I enjoy watching UK vs. Duke more than any other game. We'll be fine next year and beyond, but when will we see you guys in a meaningful game again? It'd mean so much more if one of the 'Unforgettables' was on your bench as opposed to these other guys you keep mentioning. So yeah, I have my own selfish reasons for wanting Ford or Pelphrey, but they also seem to be the guys who make the most sense when it comes to turning your program around and returning you guys to the national prominence you once enjoyed.

So, Pelphrey is not ready for UK, but he is ready for Arkansas? ESPN reports Pelphrey to be the next coach at Arkansas. Well, I say one has gotten away from you, will Ford get away from you also? For some guys who were labeled "Unforgettables", they sure seem to be forgettable when it comes to resurrecting the program. Good luck with Billy G. I still hope to see you guys in a meaningful game one day.:flame:

I forgot Arkansas was one of the top jobs in the country.

I think Pelphry is like their 6th choice. Nobody else wanted that mess.

Yeah, and UK got their 1st choice. Arkansas is SEC basketball(best bball conference after the ACC), when he wins the SEC in the next 3-4 years(the timetable I gave him at UK) will you guys actually be ready to accept one of your own? Some fans. Love your support. Maybe fans at Duke should model their fan support after you guys. We can run off Coach K and then hire some guy who has been a head coach in college basketball for 5 years instead of keeping it in the family(Johnny Dawkins, WoJo, Collins, etc.) and doing it the right way. Oh yeah, you guys are the perfect model.
