I am not a UK fan(I prefer Duke's blue and white), but seeing how I live in KY, I can't help but know what is going on in UK program. There would be no better fit,IMO, than Ford or Pelphrey.

 

Rick Barnes would be horrible at UK and would be ran out of town faster than Tubby was. He had Kevin Durant who is ultimately going to win every player of the year award there is and Texas still got beat in the 2nd round. Tubby did that without the best player in college basketball. I can't imagine UK faithful would stand for not making the sweet 16 when you have the best player in the country.

 

John Calipari might be a quick fix, but he has never coached in a real conference, nor has he beaten any real teams. Don't know how he'd hold up playing against the big boys every game.

 

Rick Pitino is actually probably the best choice, but will Uk ask him, and will he come back? he says he wasn't interested, but I have a hard time believing that if UK calls he won't be intrigued. If he had the intestinal fortitude to coach UofL, he'd have the same fortitude to come back if asked.

 

Ford or Pelphrey would be the ones considered. They would be ring the passion UK fans so desperately need to feel alive again. I almost feel sorry for you guys. No coach besides these two, Pitino included, would be universally loved and both would be guaranteed to stay as long as they possibly could. These next 2-3 years, unless you get Pitino or Calipari will be a wash. might as well bring them in and let them get themselves situated and their systems set in place. Call them the learning years until they completely get their recruits on the team and all things Tubby are gone. People say they aren't proven, but honestly, there isn't a single candidate mentioned who is more proven. You're talking about guys at "big name" schools who haven't gotten in done year in and year out. They have all taken their lumps, but a patient administration makes a huge difference. Ask Billy D. It took him 4-5 years to get Florida where it is now, and regardless of the next coach, it could take that long to get UK where it used to be. For that reason alone, it makes sense to get Ford or Pelphrey because if UK passes on them now, in 4-5 years, they may be somewhere else at a "big name" school that believed they were ready and hired them. I bet if Billy D had come to UK, that Peplhrey would have gotten a long look at the Florida job and Ford beat UofL at UofL this year. Pass on either on those guys and now and you face the chance of missing them when everyone says they are "ready". To me that doesn't make sense. Swallow your pride, forget the next 2-3 years, and rebuild from within with those who actually understand what it means to have UK across your chest.

Why should any program limit itself strictly to coaches that once played there?

I'm not saying it should limit itself to coaches that once played there, I am saying that for you guys, in the state that you are in, I believe that you might as well go with either of the two. As an outsider, it seems as though things will get worse before they get better. Fans are becoming more and more disenchanted with the program everyday. Like a different post stated, you got those who blame Mitch, and you got those who think the sky is falling down now that Billy D isn't coming. If I was a UK fan, I'd be mad and confused because things here aren't how they used to be and it seems it'll get worse before it gets better. If instant success doesn't come from an outsider, then the program will really be in disarray. The only folks who could possible get a little sympathy from UK faithful would be Pitino, Ford, or Pelphrey. I just think the younger guys would be a better fit for the future of the program.

Billy G plays boring basketball or Tubbyball to the 18%. Watching A&M and Penn play in the 1st game at Rupp put me to sleep. I thought you guys had enough of that.

 

Thad, IMO, would be no better than Ford or Pelphrey. The jury is still out on whether he can get it done for real. Xavier was decent when he was there, but no powerhouse. This year he had a great team, but what will happen next year when his key players are gone, if they go. I just don't see him in as a must have. But, I could be wrong about Thad, he just doesn't have any more credentials in my eyes than Ford or Pelphrey. Oden, Conley, and Cook made a pact to go the same college. They all played on the same AAU team and Cook was a year ahead of Oden and Conley and chose OSU. As far as I can see, Oden and Conley were a gift, not a skill of his recruiting. He would be no different than Tubby.

This is laughable. If Ford or Pekphrey was hired at this point there wouldn't be a Lexington tomorrow. UK needs to get the 2nd best person out there and go from there to get this program back up!

Thad is in like Flint with the next 2 years of recruits. They are both GREAT classes.

Greg Oden was quoted this week as saying that Conley committed to the Bucks first. Oden then asked Conley if Conley would be upset if Oden also committed. Oden was concerned that Conley might be tired of being a great player who is overshadowed by a GREAT player once again.

 

That would seem to dispel the "package" myth.

Thad is a known quantity. We know there will be a major uptick in recruiting. Can't say the same for Pelphrey or Ford. Now that's not to say that somewhere down the road they wouldn't be viable options, but not at this point in UK history.
