In my opinion,I think if Tubby had stayed I feel they would have got Patterson and Lucas, and it would have been a very exciting season!Interesting for sure!
April 6, 200719 yr I wouldn't believe it had I not heard from an insider to the UK program that Tubby was fired.
April 6, 200719 yr Tubby lovers, he was not fired or ran off. He was gone 6 weeks before the season ended. He CHOSE to leave Get over it. Go to the land of 1,000 lakes with him .. Please.    And make a point that a Tubbyu basher starteds another Tubby thread. Kind of ironic don't ya think, if you are not a Tb'r it sure seems like it in this thread Imo all the Tubby bashers are upset about is they are mad bc Tubby, as you said was not fired. He left on his own terms and now the Golden Boy Donovan has used UK and Barnhart. JMO I will support Tubby at Minnesota and hope that he does well but I stay with UK no matter who oer what, do not bandwagon jump. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 6, 200719 yr In my opinion,I think if Tubby had stayed I feel they would have got Patterson and Lucas, and it would have been a very exciting season!Interesting for sure! Then why weren't they already commited? Tubby said he was staying. No one expected him to be gone this year. Or were they both waiting to see who was leaving early from the programs that they really wanted to go to? And if no one left early then they would concider UK. Maybe it's because, for the last 9 years, we have played a style of ball that does not allow a star to showcase his talents. Maybe we're too easy to recruit against. "Don't go there. You'll have to fit into that system." "Come here. We play a style of ball that will let you showcase your talent." Don't be surprized if Patterson, Lucas, and McClain all end up at Florida now that billy has 4 more scholarships available. Also it is a distinct possibility that Billy didn't say "No" right away because he knew he was going to have 4 more scholarships available.

April 6, 200719 yr Why do you think he chose to leave? Would you want to stay where the majority of people didn't want you, despite all you had done for them in the past. :thumb: :thumb: Well said.
April 6, 200719 yr Dream on. Lucas and Patterson were not coming here, unless Donovan had came here. I heard yesterday that Lucas had now added Minnesota to his list. :sssh: :sssh:
April 6, 200719 yr Tubby is a nice guy and does not deserve to be treated poorly but lets face it he took a top 2 or 3 program in the nation with fans and talent and have made this program a top 40 team in the nation in talent on the court. You can look at it any other way you want too but UK is a mediocre basketball school now and for whatever reason it may be of poor recruiting, the players not working hard enough, not of enough talent, poor assistant coaching, players getting arrested for fake ID's, (and by the way that never stopped them from doing it again) UK has turned into an average basketball school with a lot of money. Donovan weighed the pro's and con's and made a good decision. Tubby was handed a lot of talent early in his career and no one can deny because the facts are right there the program went down hill from his first two seasons on. Two of his elite eight appearances were in his first two seasons. Tubby is a nice guy but he got what he deserved. He did not get fired he was offered some alternatives in his coaching approach from the higher ups and he did not like that and left. On the first bolded point: I say hogwash. You're ignoring the fact that the rest of the SEC — where UK has gone historically to pile up wins against opponents whose school didn't really care about hoops — got better. On the second bolded point: I say hogwash again. That team that won in '98 was nothing special on paper. For God's sake, the featured player in the offense that year was redshirted the year before — his senior year. The '98 team was wildly depleted from the previous year. The two reasons they won it all for your unappreciative fans was the fact that those guys knew how to win, and Tubby's great X&O job. I like Tubby a lot, and defend him quite a lot. But the bottom line is he shot himself in the foot by not getting rid of the laggards on his coaching staff. Recruiting may have been spotty, but it's awful convenient to ignore the fact that a couple bad bounces is all that prevented him from at least two more Final Four appearances. It's no wonder a lot of coaches are saying "thanks, but no thanks."

April 6, 200719 yr Tubby made a heck of a move, get paid that kind of money, not to be expected of anything, and eveyone loves you no matter what. So more power to you, Tubby!

I've posed this question to people who always have claimed that the '98 championship belongs to Pitino: If the unbelieveable (nay, impossible!) happened and UK miraculously won the NCAA title this year, who does the title belong to? Surely those who have always argued that Pitino earned that '98 title will say that it's Tubby's.....
