I think it's funny you have the book on every player on the team after under 3 weeks. E-5 is in a bad slump but that's not how he will play over 162 games. BP is a very solid offensive option and it's time for him to grow in to a top of the line up hitter. It doesn't happen over night. Sure Dunn K's a lot but how many 40 HR/100RBI/100 walk/near 1.000 OPS guys are out there? Do you really think teams just look over this guy? Get real. Ross isn't very good. I said it last year, and it's showing more and more every day. I'll give you that. Zambrano said a few days ago that the Reds were as tough 1-8 to pitch to as anyone. I think he knows what he's talking about. This team has the same problem as it did from game 1 last year. When they swing early and often they aren't very good. When they show patience they can beat anyone. The truth (as I said last year) is you do with the Reds what you hate others doing to your favorite teams. You over analyze to make your point. It's pretty weak... EE looked bad last year at the plate, and isn't looking any better this year. I would have no problem with Phillips if he's batting 1,2,6,7, or 8. When you have a guy with his offense batting 3-5 it's not a good thing. Zambrano can't beat anyone right now..... Marty made a great point on the radio tonight about pitch selection....He said you would think they would learn by now that you don't just go up there hacking, but they really have no clue. I get on players on my teams all the time. It just so happens there aren't many threads on here about the Red Sox, Clippers, or Wolverines...and I know you know I have no problem criticizing the Bengals. You mean to tell me that based on how the offense has looked so far, you don't think this team is in some trouble?
April 21, 200719 yr Author Edwin hit .276 with an OPS of .832. 15 HR and 72 RBI in 117 games is looking bad? In his first full season? Really? Phillips will be a middle of the order hitter, and this is his first real shot at learning what it takes. The above are just the basis of how funny it is of you to write them off after 3 weeks. The offense can go a bit down when you have pitching and defense. It's simple baseball 101...
April 21, 200719 yr I don't think this club is as bad offensively as they looked tonight and in several other games. Are there some serious concerns? Absolutely. Is it too early to be writing them off or making pat judgements? Of course. About all I will profess to right now is that I like the starting pitching, particularly Lohse, and I dislike the manager.

April 21, 200719 yr Let's face it folks, this is a division that might very well be won with 83-85 wins. Is this Reds team capable of going 83-79? If the starting pitching remains anyone close to what it has been thus far, they will stay in enough games to give them a shot at 83+ W's. Right now, I feel that this is probably around a .500 team, or a few games under that. It's a long, long season, but with the way this division shapes up, the Reds, even with their problems, should stay in contention and could very well be right there at the end.

April 21, 200719 yr I said prior to the season that I felt Lohse would be the most pleasant surprise on the staff. I felt he could win 12+ games, and I still do feel that way if the offense will help him out. With the change of scenery and his being comfortable with his role on the Reds , Lohse, I believe, is becoming a real stud. 22 K's and 2 BB...that's serious!

April 21, 200719 yr Everyone ready for tonight?? Our favorite Uncle is pitching, does he last 5 innings tonight? Can the offense manage to get more than 1 hit before the 9th inning? He hasn't pitched HORRIBLY this season, course that's not saying much for him. lol Milton's numbers so far this year: 0-2 5.06 ERA 10 innings pitched 13 hits, 7 runs, 2 homers and 3 walks.
April 21, 200719 yr Can't put all the blame on Milton, likely should have been out of the inning with no runs scored. BUT he did give up the double, so still did what he does best.
April 21, 200719 yr Dunn now with 23 strikeouts on the year. Apparently Bob Gibson is pitching against the Reds tonight. lol 3 strikeouts in the first inning, my goodness.
