March 29, 200719 yr Saw an article the other day saying that UK basketball is the Yankees of collegiate basketball. Made me ponder who are the other sports storied franchies. No doubt it is the Yankees in MLB. NBA has to be either Celtics/Lakers. NHL, no clues as I really no little about it. Collegiate football is Notre Dame, no doubt. But NFL. Bears, Packers and Giants have a long history but is one better than the other. Some would say the 49ers but they are like the UK fans that think UK basketball started with Pitino. The 49ers had a great, awesome 10 year run but really that was all. Steelers and Cowboys are pretty much in the same boat with their history. And there wasn't much to it pre-merger. Cleveland's lack of NFL success post merger puts a tarnish pre-merger NFL history. So who would be the NFL's storied franchise on the lines of the Yankees, UK, Celtics/Lakers, Notre Dame football? Do they have one? I would cast my vote for the Chicago Bears.
March 29, 200719 yr Browns? I hope that's a joke. The Bears, Packers, and Giants have been around for a while...I believe they are the three teams with the most wins in NFL History as well. I'd say it has to be the Packers or Bears
March 29, 200719 yr Too bad that merger happened and this whole Superbowl thing started. Before that the Bears had quite a few NFL championships. Only two Superbowl appearances in 40 plus years. But even though they were mediocre for some time before this recent run, it's nice to know that a majority of people hear Chicago and they still think football. I guess that counts for something. Goodness knows, no one thinks BLACKHAWKS when they hear Chicago. lol

March 29, 200719 yr I read this too fast,,,I thought it read ,,,,,"Does the NFL have a steroid franchise". Not a joke, needless to say after reading the first reply I figured out I was dyslexic. :sssh:
March 29, 200719 yr The Packers have the history with Lombardi and Bart Starr and company winning the first couple of Super Bowls, but they went a long time after that with little or no success. San Francisco had all their success in one stretch, as you said. I would think Pittsburgh or Dallas maybe...Pittsburgh was great in the 70's and they have been pretty consistently good through the 90's and now with Cowher. Dallas was also good in the 70's and then had their great run in the early 90's...but they haven't been a serious contender in a while. I would say Pittsburgh, but it isn't cut and dried like some other sports. You could make a case for any of those four, IMO (Green Bay, Pittsburgh, Dallas and San Francisco).
