Scott County Basketball

Yes - he did. It took him three years to get on as a "full time" employee, he worked at the plant, but through a temporary service during that time.

The thing I think folks need to know is that coach Hicks nor anyone in the school system "got him on" at Toyota. That he worked there is not the issue, rather how he came to work there....

I don't think that water will ever fully go under the bridge for some folks.

Tell Jim McKee that when he gets on his high horse about private schools.

Tell Jim McKee that when he gets on his high horse about private schools.

That is a fair point All Tell; actually a great point.

Tell Jim McKee that when he gets on his high horse about private schools.

Can't help ya with McKee - he's got his own agenda... Until Trinity and St. X decide to be as good in hoops as they are in football - he's on his own

McKee's the Scott County AD is he not?

He whines about the perception that the private schools act "outside the box" in gaining students.

The same perception exists about Scott County.

Truth hurts.

McKee is one of the ADs at SC

He whines about everything.

Truth v/s perception - that's where the argument gets fun.

Some of the info on here is fairly accurate concerning Rick Jones' hiring at Toyota.................. but then again some of it is not.

That shipped sailed a long time ago though.

Have your cake and eat it to. That's what this all comes down to.

success breeds success, the more you win the more people that want to play for you. There are two kinds of basketball players in Kentucky, 1. Play for Scott County, 2. Don't like Scott County because they cant beat Scott County. If you were in the Hundley's shoes would you want your kids to stay at Dunbar where they were never going to play in the Sweet 16 during their high school career or go to Scott County where they would be in the state tournament, be seen and eventually named Mr. Basketball, and eventually get a Division One Scholarship........?

Let me make sure I understand this. When someone from a private school makes the kind of statement that I bolded they are first branded as arrogant and second as liars.

As to the underlined portion I don't even want to think about how the underlined statement would have offended many if say a Trinity fan said it about football.

I just want to make sure I get the double standard. If private schools have a history of success it's because they have no boundries, they recruit players, etc. but if a public school has a history of success it's because of tradition and the ability for a successful program to self perpetuate. Gotcha.

i dont think that Saint X/Trinity are good in football because the Catholic Religion in Louisville is popular, it's obviously because of their football programs, but i dont blame Saint X/Trinity for recruiting by any means.....just like no one should blame Scott County for being successful. Bottom line is parents can move their kids where ever they want, now with the new rules athletes will have to sit out if they dont go to the feeder school of the high school (unless the family moves) is this effecting enrollment in catholic private middle schools?...who are the feeder schools for Saint X/Trinity?....alot of questions....so little time :)

Well, you are apparently misinformed. In Louisville I believe that Catholic is the largest denomination, so the Catholic religion is popular in Louisville. Second, most of the kids on the Trinity football team are Catholic. Trinity's student body as a whole is about 20 percent non-Catholic. The football team is less than fifteen percent non-Catholic. Also, more kids leave Catholic middle schools to attend public high schools than the other way around.

Catholic Religion not popular in Louisvlle??? According to the Archdiocese website (http://www.archlou.org/) there are 27 Catholic elementary schools in Jefferson County. The enrollment for all the schools is 15,500 in elementary school and 6,300 for the high schools according the website.

Doing the basic math each grade is about 1,500 students for both elementary and HS. So the outflow from Catholic elementary schools balances the inflow to the HS. Of course, for various reasons individual a certain percentage of students switch between Catholic and public schools and it has nothing to do with athletics (See a previous post in this thread). So the objective numbers imply and show that X and Trinty are not black holes that suck up huge amounts of non-Catholic students just to play football.

X and Trinty have an advantage for a very simple reason and it has nothing to do with recruiting. It is that the schools each have 1,400 students and they are all boys. Assumption is in a similar situation from a girls perspective. Football is always a numbers game and the dominance of X and Trinity point that out.

So much information in so little time....

didnt know the catholic religion was so deep in louisville, good to see that you folks are instilling good values in those boys, is it somewhere in the catholic religion that football fields should have luxury boxes at their high school football fields or does that have to do with successful football?......i still didnt get my answer about what middle schools that feed saint x and trinity, and do those middle schools have seperate teams or play as one middle school as does lexington catholic who draws from multiple county feeder middle schools for a lexington catholic middle school team which has no home court/field at anything. just a baptist trying to make it in a catholic state...??? (just read the rules, this is the last time religion will be mentioned in my post...sorry)

As noted in an earlier post, there are 27 Catholic elementary schools. Catholic elementary schools go through eighth grade. Most have football teams that start in the 3rd grade with flag football and switch to tackle in the 5th grade. The league is the Catholic School Athletic Association. It is very high quality football with excellent coaching. There are no defined feeder schools for the Catholic high schools, but proposal 2, recently approved by the state board of education, would define the Catholic elementary schools as feeders for all of the Catholic High Schools. I don't understand your comments about the Catholic religion and luxury boxes. If I were the sort to take offense, I might interpret it as anti-Catholic bias. But I'm sure that isn't what you meant.

Also, on a minor note, failing to capitalize Trinity and St X is considered a sign of disrespect.

so according to your comments above that more kids go from private to public after middle school, with this new proposal trinity and saint x will get all of their middle school talent and will have even more talent/students. a proposal that was meant to quite the public/private debate is only going to improve the talent of the private football powerhouses in louisville. for some reason it makes me smile that everything the KHSAA does seems to work against it self, the above jab about luxury boxes at football fields was one of jealousy!

Where's the respect? It's St. X and Trinity.

Not sure where you got the idea about getting more kids from public vs private, but you can think what you want to think. Don't be jealous, if you want a luxury box, get a group of parents and form a booster club. Also, community support goes a long way in a program.
