Patterson Comments on Recruitment..

Featured Replies

Patrick Patterson said Tuesday that he will narrow his list of potential college choices to three after the McDonald's All-American game March 28 in Louisville, dismissing an Internet rumor that he had already given the Florida Gators a verbal commitment.

"My mom actually called and texted me and asked me if I had told the Florida coaches I was going there," Patterson said Tuesday after school let out at Huntington High. "But I haven't even spoken with anybody from Florida in a long time."

Patterson last visited Florida on an unofficial visit March 4 at a game against Kentucky.

Patterson said he had heard the rumors all day but hadn't had a chance to read up and check them out for himself. He still lists Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia, Wake Forest and West Virginia. He said he'd make a final decision the second week of April, when he hopes to sign.

"I haven't committed to anywhere," Patterson said. "I don't know where it came from, but it's not true."

Word spread of Patterson's potential commitment on Tuesday morning when a claim was made on a message board at http://www.catspause.com/ that Fox Sports Radio had reported Patterson's verbal commitment to Florida.

Fox Sports Radio had no story on its Web site and no mention of it on its broadcasts all afternoon. It's call-in phone number was busy all afternoon.

Is this a good sign, or a bad sign, that Patterson hasn't spoke with the folks at Florida? Has he already decided on Florida and they know and he is letting them concentrate on the tournament? Or, has he already decided on Kentucky and the folks at Florida realize that and haven't contacted him?

Just sounds like to me that he is pretty much going to do what he has said he was going to do all along; narrow down his choices and then make his decision. I still would be shocked if he does not sign with Florida, they have a lot of connections to West Virginia, but since he has not given them a verbal it is still possible he could end up with UK, and they need this one bad.

Honestly I don't think anyone knows at this point.

Thanks for clearing it up SSF. :thumb:

I for one will be glad when all of this speculation is over and ends!

I can't see Florida feeling they have him wrapped up and not talking to him anymore.

Even if he had told me he was 100% signing with me, I'd be after him as much as is allowed to make sure it happens.

Patterson's recruitment struggle is killing my buzz. He's making one heck of a fiasco out of it...

Who as of now are the big 3? UK, Florida, and WVU? Is Duke in the main mix? Just wondering

UK, UF and Duke have seemed to be the main focus but I would not be shocked to see WVU replace one of the three on the list when he gives his top 3 next weekend...

I agree with you and I expect them to, and honesty it wouldnt be a bad choice, he would be the man at WVU and they will have a good team comming back. But what team would you expect them to replace?

Also if Im not mistaken didn't you have some ties in Huntington? If so have you heard anything bout Marshall process in a coach. The assistant from Florida (who coached at Pikeville) has it offered from what I have been told. And he has recruited him the most for Florida and Patterson is close to him. If he takes that how do you think it will affect Florida chances? and will it help Marhsall any, a writer from Huntington told me he would consider Marshall if they did hire him.

That's the million dollar question. It should be fun to follow to say the least. Looking at style of play PP is a player that could really shine at WVU. I've always thought it was the best fit...

Truth be told the career has started to take off at a rapid rate lately and I'm not as in touch with everything as I have been in the past on the recruiting scene. I went to Marshall and still have some contacts down there so if and when I get a chance I'll ask around...

I think if he goes to Marhsall (still cant think of his name) it wont help Florida chances and may hurt them a little. But he has liked Florida so its hard for me to see him dropping them off. He has made it clear he likes Duke and Coach K has recruited him very hard, he said after the game he was at against Bridgeport that him comming got him a couple extra points maybe. Tubby has been the same way and after him for a while. But I could just see one of those dropping to WVU but I just coulnt guess who.

Beline is doing a great push though, and his thing is Florida UK and Duke gets guys like you all the time, but we dont and we have a good team and we will make you a star and the center of everything, and your momma loves WVU.

And I agree WVU is his best fit. And basketball in Morgantown is really getting back on the radar, they have alot of excited fans.

and your momma loves WVU.

You don't see many kids go against mommas wishes...
